Lenses / Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L IS II pricing and feedback
« on: September 29, 2014, 03:26:02 PM »
I would like some feedback on how low you think the price will drop during Black Friday? Seeing that the standard price has dropped from $2499 down to $2299, will that affect the discounted pricing this year?

Additionally, any feedback from those of you that own this lens would be highly appreciated!

EOS Bodies / 5D Mark III - Repair Procedure
« on: April 26, 2012, 08:54:46 AM »
I emailed Canon regarding the repair procedure of the affected 5D Mark III's.

This is what they replied:

"... But even for the unfixed cameras there will be a free of charge service offered at our service station to replace the light shield from 10th of may."

"According to the information I have it is a light shield between LCD-Illumination and Exposure sensor located at the prism unit."

FAQ: EOS 5D Mark III - Quality Issue Announcement

Concerning the EOS 5D Mark III digital SLR camera, when the LCD panel illuminates in extremely dark environments, the displayed exposure value may change. Canon has decided on our service policy to address this phenomenon, so we would like to inform you of the details as described below.

Affected Products
EOS 5D Mark III Digital SLR Camera whose sixth digit in the serial number is 1 or 2.

For example, “xxxxx1xxxxxx” or  “xxxxx2xxxxxx” (x represents any optional number)

In extremely dark environments*, if the LCD panel illuminates, the displayed exposure value may change. However, when shooting with a lens attached, this change in exposure value will not significantly affect the shooting results.

* Some examples of a dark environment are as follows:

1. When the body cap is attached

2. When the lens cap is attached

EOS Bodies / Should I buy the 5D Mark III Kit?
« on: April 12, 2012, 03:16:24 AM »
I'm seriously thinking of upgrading from a Canon XXD camera and want to know if those of you who have bought the 5D Mark III recommend taking the plunge. Obviously going from a Canon XXD camera to the 5D Mark III is a considerable jump however most photographers around including on this forum have said that there's no limit for how good a picture can be.

Purchasing the kit would mean this would be my first full frame camera as well as my first L lens. $4299 pretty much fills up my $4500 budget for photography.  I do have a concern that there have been quite a lot of "returned units" due to malfunction etc. There have been quite a few issues popping up and that makes me a bit more nervous to buy something so expensive. What are the chances of getting a "dud unit?" and are all these issues that have come up able to be fixed through a firmware update?

I would say that I fit into the category that Canon mentioned below "advanced amateurs and emerging professionals".

Canon Press Statement:
"The EOS 5D Mark III is Canon's answer to hundreds of thousands of advanced amateurs and emerging professionals looking for a compact, high-quality camera system to help them achieve their artistic vision, whether it be through still or video imagery. The EOS 5D Mark III introduction coincides with Canon's 25 th anniversary celebration of the EOS camera system."

Please provide an answer with some backing behind your recommendation.
