Lighting / Help with choosing a soft box
« on: December 06, 2012, 01:37:39 PM »
Hi all,

I want to go to the next step with portrait photography (indoor or outdoor) and I am about to buy my first lightning gear:

- Canon Speedlite 430 ExII
- ETTL trigger yn622c (http://flashhavoc.com/yn622c_review/)

The two additional things that I want are a light stand and a softbox (no umbrella) for the Speedlite. There are so many different models on internet that it is difficult to choose. Any experience with some good ones (not too expensive...) ?

The ones that look interesting so far:
- Westcott Apollo 28" http://www.adorama.com/WEARF.html?utm_term=Other&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=Other&utm_source=rflaid63799
A bit too expensive for me

- Fotodiox Pro 24x36" Umbrella Softbox http://www.amazon.com/Fotodiox-Umbrella-Softbox-Speedlite-600EX-RT/dp/B008CBCWIC/ref=sr_1_23?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354681051&sr=1-23&keywords=softbox+speedlite+kit

- CowboyStudio Pro 20-Inch x 20-Inch http://www.amazon.com/CowboyStudio-20-Inch-Quick-Speedlite-Softbox/dp/B00ACR9X9U/ref=sr_1_61?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1354818910&sr=1-61&keywords=softbox+speedlite+kit

Any advice or any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
John

Lenses / Vignetting problem on 24-105mm
« on: April 30, 2012, 01:14:06 PM »
Hi all,

I went to Yosemite this weekend to play with my new 5D Mark III (Love this camera) + 24-105mm and I just noticed a weird vignetting issue at 24 mm (does not show at other focal lengths)

The Aperture was f11 and the vignetting is only visible on the top left corner...
Anyone noticed the same behavior with the Kit lens (I am okay with vignetting as long as it is consistent in every corner of the picture...)

EOS Bodies / 5D Mark III in camera lens aberration correction
« on: April 18, 2012, 12:58:41 AM »
Hi all,

Since I switched from my crop body (Canon 350D) to the 3D Mark III (great camera), I found that the Canon 50mm 1.4 I loved is not so good with portraits anymore, I replaced it with the Canon 85mm 1.8 which has a better reach but lots of chromatic aberrations at full aperture. I had high expectations in the in camera lens correction but it seems this lens is not supported (correction data not available).

Is there a list of the supported lenses ? Does anyone know if canon plan to support more lenses through a firmware update ?

Thanks,
John

Hi all,

I just received my 5D Mark III to replace my Rebel XT I've had for the last 6 years. My current bag is too small and I am considering buying a new shoulder bag which should Ideally hold the 5D + the 24-105 Kit lens attached to the body and ideally one or two extra lenses (Canon 85mm 1.8 + Sigma 70-300mm)

Those two bags seem great for the value:

Lowepro Adventura 170 Camera Bag

or

Case Logic SLRC-203

Do you have any advice on which one is the best, and do you have any experience with any of those bags (or any other bag that would fit under a 50 $ budget) ?

Thank you,
John
