I'm a Canon guy 100%!  But more DR capability is always better if everything else is equal.

The analogy of a car with more HP is a good one. Don't always need it, but when you do, you are extremely grateful to have it. Extra HP can save your life and more DR can save a photo.

I hope Canon improves DR someday, but until then I will happily use my Canon 5D3, it is a great Camera.

Regarding your first comment, I will take my chances with more DR. lol
Regarding the second comment, Canon DR is adequate, but I want great, not adequate.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my Canon, getting great photos with it, but there are times more DR would be welcome.  End of discussion for me.

Bottom line Neuroa.., would you prefer a 5D3 with greater DR or not?

I bought  a T4i, for my girlfriend and she loves it but says it is too big. So yes there is a market, I think it will be a success and I don't like mirrorless cameras so I find this is a fantastic move by Canon. Gee people complaining about too much choice, really don't get it.

I thought that's what the EOS-M was for. Or Nikon 1.

We both prefer DSLR with optical viewfinder format & EF-S mount. AF faster on T4i which was important also. Mirrorless is not for every one.

EOS Bodies / I have a 5D3 what are +'s & -'s of 1DsIII

I have a 5D3 and have a chance of picking up a used 1DsIII at a good price.
My question is what would be the comparative advantages/disadvantages of the 1DsIII relative to my 5D3 that I have now?

I would especially appreciate answers from people who have both of these bodies.

What was the original sales price of the 5D2 adjusted for inflation. I don't think there is much of a difference with the 5D3. We live in a market economy nobody forces you to buy anything. Complaining here doesn't do squat.

I bought a 5D3 and have been enjoying it immensely. It has given me many hours of enjoyment along with getting some great photos I couldn't of gotten with my 7D. Well worth every penny.

If I had an equivalent Nikon I'm sure I would be almost as happy. If I was heavy into landscapes sure the 800 is better, but I'm into sports, and low light, so I have the camera for me.

I'm going to stick with Canon  , but any friends who ask, I will say go look at what Nikon has, as their cameras are definitely better then Canon presently.

For hockey I feel comfortable all the way up to 12,800. I rarely get good photos under 1/800 when the puck is in play. Try M with aperture and shutter set and ISO on ISO with a max of 12,800 ISO set. Focus point I set in middle with 8 surrounding points. Also good to put on high speed continuous. I have never tried any of the special modes for focusing. I guess I should give it a try.

You can go Auto ISO in full manual?  Didn't know you could do that.  Will try, thx.

With a 5D3 yes, but then I'm not sure you can EC +1.  I know you can on 1D bodies, but not sure about 5D3. 

Yes you got me on that one. When I did EC+1, I was in shutter priority.  . Another reason to want a 1DX

Not 100% of the time but mostly shoot at 2.8, 1/800, +1 EV and let the ISO be what it may (These shots between 4,000 and 12,800). Of course I have a 5D3 so it is not a problem. Most of the time I shoot RAW to adjust the WB, but these shots were taken JPEG and they came out fine I believe. I don't see the need for IS or a tripod if you are shooting at 1/800. Hockey is a fast sport so you need to shoot fast. Of course it helps if the arena is well lit, which is often not the case for minor league rinks.I like to get low and an angle where there is no glass. Personally I don't like to shoot downwards.

 I just wish I could of had a camera like this 10 years ago when my kids were just starting to play hockey.
