Lenses / Re: Telezoom lens (70-300L vs 70-200 vs 100-400)- Advice
« on: May 19, 2013, 08:29:23 AM »
Here's a shot I took yesterday of a Timber Rattlesnake.

I love this lens.  Very sharp even at 300 mm and compact enough where I don't mind trudging through the woods with it all day.

Here's a few more I took today with my 7D.  I'm very satisfied with the sharpness of this lens even at 300 mm.
It's been a very good spring for reptiles and amphibians in Wisconsin!

Pickerel frog in the reeds

American Toad

Green Frog

Another Green Frog (something about this photo I really like)

Here's a few shots I took last weekend.

Get a macro lens, you won't regret it.  Your biggest decision is whether to go with IS or not.  Canon, Sigma and Tamron all manufacture very good macro lenses.  You can get tack sharp photos from any of them.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Nikon 7100 has been anounced
« on: February 20, 2013, 11:40:22 PM »
Detailed Nikon D7100 specs:
 •24.1MP CMOS sensor
 •6fps
•No AA filter (similar to the D800E)
 •51 AF point, 15 cross-type
 •Built-in HDR function
 •2016-pixel RGB sensor
 •3.2" 1,229k dots LCD screen
 •Dual SD card slots
 •EXPEED 3 processor
 •ISO range: 100-6400
 •100% viewfinder coverage
 •Video: 1080p @ 60i/50i/30/25/24 fps plus 720p @ 60p
•Compatible with the WU-1a wireless mobile adapter

One thing I found interesting was the

1.3x crop mode:
This mode boosts your lens' focal range by 1.3x which translates to a 1.95x crop, much like a Micro Four Thirds camera. This gives you extra zoom capabilities without the hassle of changing lenses.

Here's a few snakes and lizard photos I took recently.  Canon T2i and Tamron 90mm.

Some may avoid the D600 due to reports of oil/dust on the sensor.
