I still have my EOS 5 (non-US A2e) and EOS 3 - I miss them but I haven't touched them in years because I'm with compupix on this:

Now that I think about it...
I don't miss the scratched negatives and the dirty negative prints.  :)

I'm still trying to find a good way to get all my old B&W negatives scanned cleanly.

Yeah, I had FoCal crash on one of my tests with the 5d3 and left my settings all screwed up but to be fair it did warn me that it was not able to restore all my settings.  I missed fixing one or two that really messed with me for a day.

I did get different results on different test runs but when run with consistent lighting, distance, etc... they were in the same ballpark and I am definitely getting better shots having applied the recommended AFMA settings.  As I understand it we're talking about tolerances in manufacturing and such. From what I have read it is expected that in real world and controlled scenarios that there will be some variances from shot to shot.  As far as what the sharpest aperture is, I get different results on that, too, but overall the graphs of sharpness are pretty consistent.  I know what range to work in with each lens to get best results - good enough for me.

I get the impression that this is definitely more of an art than an exact science at this point but I'm seeing it where it counts - my pictures. I wasn't getting anything near this sharp until I ran FoCal.  (Yes, the pic needs some work but I have a good sharp file to start with.)

My cousin is using FoCal on his Nikon and kit lens - that has been all over the place.

Coming from the 5Dc I am relatively new to AFMA but my shots on the 5D3 were not quite as sharp as I was expecting.  I went with FoCal pro - ran AFMA on my most frequently used lenses to start.  I also ran some  of the sharpness analysis on those same lenses so I know the sweet spot on each.  The improvement in sharpness from applying AFMA and hitting the sweet spot on each lens was noticeable.

I was not one of those who ever claimed the 5D3 was "soft" but the improvement was definitely noticeable and worth every penny.

As far as usability goes - it will be nice when the 5D3 is fully automated but it's not really that difficult to adjust manually.

I have to admit it didn't all sync in and I keep going back for reference but I read everything but the video stuff.  Since I do video I gave that a miss.

I would love for your wife to explain the value of a good lens to my wife.  I shouldn't complain - I did get her to give in on the 5D3 and I have enough L glass for now.

I'm getting kind of nervous.  Ordered on 3/26 and status is "New order processing" while everyone else is getting sent to the warehouse.  I hope it's just because they need to split an item that is still backordered item from the camera.

I'm sticking with B&H as I don't need the camera for any specific event and have great customer service from B&H when needed.

I am sticking with B&H just because they already charged my credit card back in april 3 (international customer)... I can't believe you can wait that long!!! Even if you don't have an upcoming event, playing with a 5d3 at home is perfect joy for me :s

Well - I was dying to have it in time for a wedding that just passed.  Had to shoot it with my 5D - that was very disappointing.  I hoped that once they resolved the light leak issue stock would flow and they did seem to cover a lot of backorders last week.  Either way, I don't think I could have changed vendor at that point so might as well stick where I am.  I plan to give it a good workout on vacation which is still a few weeks away.

Is an other membre is the same waiting position...

Hi PhP,
I thing several of us still are.  I ordered mine in March and hope to get one from the next shipment.  B&H has been pretty clear that Canon doesn't tell them exactly how many units are coming in each shipment so they can't predict when any given order will ship.

If you shop around it seems like other retailers don't have as big a backlog - several here have canceled their B&H orders and already have the camera in hand. I'm sticking with B&H as I don't need the camera for any specific event and have great customer service from B&H when needed.

Thanks for the updates - glad to hear that you are sending out orders again.  I have had nothing but good experiences with B&H for ~15 years and so am patiently (well, not really) waiting for my 5Dm3 that I ordered a little late.

I don't know which to believe. As I am waiting for a the 5D Mkiii from them I am hoping the original dates are correct.

I see the closing notice on the home page but the twitter feed and their 2012 holiday calendar page both say that they are closed through the 13th.  Add in normal Saturday closing and that has them reopening on the 15th.
