EOS Bodies / Re: No EOS-1D X Replacement in 2014 [CR2]

I believe the 5D4 will be the camera that stops me getting another 1 series body.

EOS Bodies / Re: A New EOS Pro Body With 46mp Next Month? [CR1]

I don't care how many megapixels it has, it's the quality of those pixels.

If Canon made a camera that was 18mp and totally clean ISO up to 51200 I'd pay 10k for that in a heartbeat.

EOS Bodies / Re: Are These The EOS 7D Mark II Specifications?

I like the thought of improved sensors for my cameras yet I find exposing correctly in the first place helps a lot.

What I would like though is a much more intelligent metering system that doesn't use a grey average to calculate exposure.

Canon General / Re: Another Canon Medium Format Mention
« on: August 12, 2014, 03:32:59 AM »
One thing Canon would lead on is the flash system. Medium format ETTL flash solutions mostly suck. As a H4D50 user te ETTL solution for that camera is clumsy. I never got on with it.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon Doing Market Research on Medium Format?
« on: August 07, 2014, 11:36:53 AM »
Medium format is the new full frame.

If not now in 3-5 years. It's another market to make money from and I fully expect it to be pushed to all hell.

If canon get's into bed with some pre existing lenses it's a done deal.

I love how it gets so technical on here and numbers get thrown about.

Yet we shoot love and emotions.

Lenses / Re: How many years before we see a 50L II
« on: July 28, 2014, 03:50:30 AM »
There are issues with the 50L. I've had two.

In each case unless shooting wide open there is focus drift which is noticeable between 1.4 and 2.0.

When I got the Sigma there was a higher number of in focus shots than not, the images are sharper and I see none of the 'ugly bokeh' that I've been told about. The lens performs better in the outer points in AI servo mode than the 1.2L does as well.

It's worth the upgrade and I'm someone that likes to stay brand loyal. But the new 50 from Sigma is stunning.

It handles flare better than the L, it has almost zero CA and fringing wide open. For people to say the 1.2 is better either hasn't used the Sigma, had a bad copy or well, whatever.

When Canon releases a new version of the 50L I'll be jumping back to that, because when it does appear it should be better still (revised coatings, lessons learned from the old design and closed loop AF).

Until then, the Sigma 50 Art is the lens to get.

EOS Bodies / Re: High Megapixel EOS on the Way as Mentioned by Canon
« on: July 24, 2014, 05:39:33 AM »
I'd like a 35mm sensor with bigger pixels rather than more of them.

9
Out of 21 million pixels on the sensor 924 are hot.

It is a 6 year old cam. I can't see though how it would effect an image. That's a relatively tiny number of pixels.

Part of me wouldn't be surprised if this is the high MP body.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: 1D X for Below US$5,000
« on: June 17, 2014, 01:54:59 PM »
It's coming up to three years old if you factor in since announcement. It would of been much sooner had it not of been due to the Earthquake and Tsunami in Japan.

Still, 3-4 years is a good timeline. I wouldn't expect Canon to drop the price to clear inventory? Has that ever happened prior to an announcement? I can't think of it ever happening before?

12
A compact 1DX would be immense.

13
A 7Dii most likely and possibly the announcement of the higher megapixel cam (if one even exists).

A new 50mm to compliment the body, yeah I can see that.

But with the 1DX only 2 years old, (I got one of the first in the UK two years ago next week) and with the 5D3 being a similar age I cannot see revised versions of these until next year.

I was one of those 1ds3 users who waited over 4 years for the full frame pro body announcement.

Market wise I don't believe Canon is suffering, Nikon and Sony are, Canon? Nope.

14
12mp = lovely pixel density.

Stick a mirror in it and I'm there.

Whatever the information is, it can't be worse than the Nikon oil issue :D

Seriously though. Best way around it is if it appears somewhere else first. A bit like how CR often mentions stuff from Keith at Northlight.

Unless you are tied to Canon is some way I see no issue with this. Anyhoo, PDF up for an hour and it gets every  where. Send it to the guys at Photography on the Net if you want exposure.

If the 70-200 MkII is in there I WILL want to know about it as I've had 2 AF barrels die on me within warranty. On two separate lenses.
