EOS Bodies / Re: BUY 5d MkII now or WAIT for 5d MkIII????
« on: January 31, 2012, 10:38:29 AM »
I see part of my answer addressed on page 7, but I'm not going to read all 7 pages just to be sure I don't repeat...
I'm in the same boat so here's my rationale...
I don't need a 5DII tomorrow. I'd like one yesterday but I can't justify buying 3 year old tech knowing that the new one should be dropping any day. I already missed out on the best price the camera has ever been at so I have little incentive to jump at it right now. I'd like better AF and FPS out of the Mk3, and would prefer a shared sensor with the 1Dx but will let the real announcement decide which camera I will plan for.
I guess to surmise, since I don't NEED a 5D at this moment, I'm not going to make any purchase until we know what the new camera will have, and for how much.

Lenses / Re: How do you pay for your lenses?

I buy and sell things to finance my lenses. For instance, the HTC Flyer had a price error middle of last year and I pocketed 600 dollars in about 30 minutes which put me in range for the 70-200 IS II.

I can say this, though - if they release a 5DIII with 22 MP and a “pro level” AF system (e.g. recycle the 1DsIII AF), leaving the main differentator from the 1D X as the frame rate (still 4 fps, even), I'd be quite interested - perhaps enough to get the 5DIII instead of the 1D X.  Don't worry, Canon  ::)  the money saved will go toward lenses....

Beginning to sound like a 1Ds4 in a small body ....  8) 8) 8)

In terms of specs... However one of the reasons the 1 series loses the mode dial for buttons is the weather sealing. With a mode dial instead of buttons it either won't be sealed as well, or they'll need some tricks up their sleeves. You better believe, though, that I am very interested.

turned out actually being 1.5"! Who really saw that one coming?

Did anyone watch the Q&A? I'm wondering if anything was said that would make me jump on this. Amazon just put it up for pre-order and I kind of don't want to play the same waiting game that happened with (and caused me, in part, to never get) the s100.

I couldn't find to edit my last post, but it's up on Amazon for preorder.

I was really hoping for integrated GPS, but I'm still interested. That price though... While its a lot of kit, it's just hard to justify this rather than putting that towards a 1DX in my eyes.
