I ordered the kit via JR on amazon.  They charged my credit card, and it says shipping soon.  I'm hoping that means tomorrow.  I'm hesitant to cancel my Amazon body only purchase.  I can sell the lens on ebay and break even if I really wanted to.

I would have to agree with others that this is either a "closest to the warehouse that has the stock" thing, or the people who are claiming to get shipments of the BODY ONLY camera are full of it.

The customer service rep was useless at Amazon.  She was the dumbest grouping of atoms that I've ever spoken to/at.  She said that the item hasn't been released yet and can't be shipping.  No help.  No advice.  She did want to keep asking me if I'd like to cancel the order!  Stupid.

I'm canceling my body-only pre-order and hoping J&R comes through.

There are two potential pitfalls:

- They are selling gray market and don't tell you til it's too late... return debacle ensues...
- They don't have them on-hand and make you wait a week.

Having already charged my card though, I am hopeful.  Sucks that their fastest shipping means I won't get it until Wednesday.

The way purchasing from a third party through Amazon works is this:
You place your order and have 30 minutes to cancel the order which the status for is "Not Yet Shipped."
After 30 minutes your status changes to "Shipping Soon" and the merchant is notified of the order.
At this point you'd have to contact the merchant to cancel your order or make any changes as this is when Amazon charges your card and gives the merchant access to the funds.
I can't say for sure that placing your order claims one of the available kits in that 30 minute buffer, but I believe it does.

I got all excited when my status changed to "shipping soon" earlier today, and then a separate order I placed today shipped and it went back to "not yet shipped" I find that strange and am no longer looking toward having a new camera tomorrow. Come on, Amazon! Any info is better than this game you're playing.

Back to shipping soon. I think I'll stop checking every 20 minutes and try to find something to do that matters... Uncharted, here I come.

I'm still waiting on my confirmation, ordered March 4 though.  No word yet.  I'd love to get it by tomorrow or Saturday so I can use it to photograph my son's 2nd birthday, but we'll see.

I, however, have a ton of faith in Amazon.  I ordered something 2 day last night at 10pm and it arrived by 10am this morning.  Insanity.  So I'll give them the rest of the day to try to get it to me in time.  I really don't want to have to buy a kit locally (with tax, ugh) and deal with selling the lens.

I've not yet received a shipping confirmation, only the order confirmation.

I'm sure most of you, like me, are scouring all the threads on the release between the gear talk and rumors but for those of you that aren't I'm going to post my update here, too. I received my order confirmation order at 2:33:02 AM CST. And my camera shipping status just changed to shipping soon.

Well, I slept on it and this morning there's no shipping update for me. I understand Canons desire to sell more kits than just bodies, but I'm really surprised that there's really no talk of the body only shipping yet.

I ordered on the 2nd at 230am cst with one day shipping and it hasn't been updated to shipping soon yet. Here's hoping for a nice surprise in the morning! (shipping status, not the camera. I'm not that naive.)

Hope that means Tomorrow or Friday for me! 1 Day prime shipping, and if it's at the center nearest my house 2 day makes it in 1 day. I'm getting antsy over here.

I'm surprised more people are not ditching Amazon at this point and going with independent stores...

If anyone uses the "tax" excuse, it's just stupid. You have to declare it eventually...

You're supposed to, whether or not that actually happens is another matter. I'd love to just walk into a store and pick one up today, however I put about a grand worth of amazon credit towards this purchase and couldn't afford to pay for the camera out of pocket otherwise right now.

Amazon preorder within first hours of avail per orders. Still no email, no charge, no nothing.

"not yet shipped" !!!

I'll give them till 22nd am, and jump ship.

Anyone have success w/ Amazon??

I ordered from amazon at 230am cst on the 2nd. Still not a whisper of a detail.

Why should a company need to be vague or inaccurate to cover their butts? If the CS had all the information, they could just tell the customer the whole truth - all the relevant facts! The problem is that they do not have all the information they need so cannot tell the whole story because they do not know the whole story.

So we are back to big companies vs small once again.

Exactly. They're just following the book to move on and tell the next customer with the exact same question question the same unsatisfying answer. One way or another, we will all have our cameras, the impatient will just end up paying tax and the ones already stretching their budgets will have to wait.

Holy crap Amazon, May 3rd, say what?!  I placed my order March 2nd at 8am cst.

To be slightly fair to Amazon "by May 3rd" is between tomorrow and then. They're just covering their butts by not saying you'll get it friday and then it being delayed a week. Or a month. I'd be willing to put money on you getting yours long before May 3rd. But if that date is accurate I'm going to be very, very disappointed as I had to sell my camera and use a whole lot of amazon credit to afford just the body.
