EOS Bodies - For Stills / My Canon 5D III went down today :((
« on: August 08, 2013, 09:21:37 AM »
I took over 100 photos yesterday. This is what I get straight out from my camera(JPEG) – over 60% of photos are like this or worst. I haven’t review raw yet.

You guys have any idea?

I’m 15mins away from Canon Service Center in Irvine, CA. My 5D III still under 1yr warranty.

Lenses / Canon 14mm II for "Yangshuo, China"
« on: August 06, 2013, 09:41:12 AM »
My next business trip to HK & China is in mid Sep. We going to have a weekend off in China, my co-workers and I are planning visit “Yangshuo, China”. You can see Yangshuo landscape in their $20 bill.

For the gear, I’m going heavy this time:
1. First body - 5D III + 16-35 II or 14mm II + 24-70 II backup
2. Second body - 5D III + 70-200 f2.8 IS II
I never hand on 14mm II before and I would like to rent it for couple weeks for this trip. Are there any cons compared to 16-35 II?

For those “been there & done that”:
1. Are there places in “Yangshuo” that you recommend for landscape photos?
2. Activities that you would recommend?
3. Since my co-workers and I don’t speak Chinese, do we really need a tour guy? We prefer our own paste, however, we still want to know the historical of Yangshuo.
Look forward to have your feedbacks.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 2nd Body - your thoughts?
« on: June 13, 2013, 09:22:54 AM »
Hi guys,
It took me almost 3yrs to accomplish my ultimate goal, to own some of Canon popular lenses: 50L - 85L II - 135L – 16-35L II – 24-70L II – 70-200L f2.8 IS II

To avoid swapping lenses, I’m thinking getting 2nd body to pair it up with my 5D III.

My thoughts:
1. I’m 100% sure that I DO NOT want crop sensor. I want to shoot in low light without flash

2. I’m @ 60% on 1D X – due to high price tag, size, and I’m not shooting anything @ extremely fast.

3. I’m @ 80% on 5D III – just perfect for my needs.
4. I’m @ 90% on 6D – due to lower price tag. The price tag between 6D Vs 5D III is $1500 -$1700 dif. That $ can be easily go to my next DREAM lens, 400mm f2.8 IS.

My setup: all my f2.8 zoom lenses will go with 5D III for general shooting – more likely just 24-70 II. All my prime lenses will go with 6D for close up, portrait and still shots - more likely 85L or 135L.

Would love to have your inputs, especially from 5D III & 6D owners :)

Lenses / $1550 for a used 85L f1.2 II
« on: June 06, 2013, 09:44:46 AM »
I saw a post on CL - 85L f1.2 II selling for $1775.

Condition according to seller:
1. Like new  in term of funtionality and cosmetic. ( I did saw the pictures from seller, the lens looks new)
2. No dust, B&W filter is included
3. Date code UA(2012)
4. Comes with everything box, foams, etc....original receipt from best buy. Warranty is just expired
5. Reason for selling: seller wants 50L. 85L is little to tight.

I spoke to seller over the phone and we agreed @ $1550 cash.

Question: Would you go for it if all conditions above are true?

« on: April 13, 2013, 11:58:25 AM »

What editing software(s) do you use?  and why?

I plan to buy a Studio strobe lighting set.

Here is my plan:
1. Setup location, my garage
2. Shooting F-stops, min f8 prefer f11
3. Shutter speed, 1/125 or faster
4. 100ISO
5. Budget $300 to $600 (lower better, don't plan to use much)

You guys know the min light(watts) I should be looking for? or any good suggestions?

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Snow tubing with 5D III + 24-70 II
« on: December 31, 2012, 05:56:02 PM »
I plan to take my 4yrs daughter to Mountain High in CA this Friday. This will be her 1st time touching and playing with snow. Our activities are:  build a snow man, snow tubing, and walking around the town with hot chocolate drinks.

I'm thinking about 5D III + 24-70 II with RS-7 strap for this trip.

 My concerns are:
1.  Will my 5D III and 24-70 II survive the cold and wet from the snow?
2. Will this combo be little too big for snow tubing?

I have Canon S100, but I doubt I would be able to capture her sliding in the tube down the lanes or building a snow man with her cousins.

Your thoughts and advices are greatly appreciated

Third Party Manufacturers / Hand on SONY RX 1.............AMAZING
« on: December 19, 2012, 12:25:29 PM »
I was playing with Sony RX 1 yesterday at local camera store….all I can say is WOW.

The IQ is amazing - normal light, low light, super low light no problem. At higher ISO 6400ish the images look REALLY-REALLY good. It looks cleaner than my 5D III @ f2.8 lens

AF speed is quite fast. I didn’t have any problem focus in low light. The lens feel solid. You touch it, you know its high quality lens.

The chassis is very well made. It feels very solid. This is no plastic stuff…

To me, this Sony RX 1 has great potentials for many uses. The only thing that pulling me back from buying is fixed lens, but I still can see myself travel with this camera very well

I thought I would share.
