EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark III [CR1]

The 5D Mkll is has been a runaway sales success way beyond Canon's expectaions.

I repeat my question - what is your basis for saying that? I'd like to see some data please.

Japanese 2010 System Camera Sales Analysis:

So that means, the 5DMkII sold well?

EOS Bodies / Re: Buy Canon T2i or wait for the "T3i"
« on: December 29, 2010, 07:59:34 PM »
I'm definitely getting the T2i, its all about timing for me, if I can save hundreds of dollars I am willing to wait...

The 60D is out of my range and my dad says don't bother with his old 20D.
You won't save hundreds of dollars. Maybe a few dollars, yes, but not hundreds. Additionally, I don't think that there will be a T3i that soon. The T2i has no competitor right now and is a lot of camera for that price.

I don't agree with your dad. The 20D is a good camera. But the T2i isn't bad either... ;)

I think 2011 will bring replacements for (in chronological order):
Rebel XS replacment (12MP, 720p video, ISO 3200 max)
7D Mark II
1Ds Mark IV
T2i replacement (entry-level 7D Mark II specs)
Replacement of
- Rebel XS: I don't think so. T1i is going to be the new XS.
- 7D: hummmmm, I don't think, we will see it coming 2011
- T2i: I'm not sure. My guess would be, that Canon waits longer than a year, before they release the T3i. The T2i is speced very well.

What do you miss regarding the 7D?

I don't think that there will be a 7D MkII in March. There will possibly be a 600D/T3i in march, but no 7D MkII.

17-40 f/4L will most likley be replaced by a 15-60 f/4L IS.
According to who?

According to me.  This is a rumors site after all so I am starting a rumor.  15-60 f/4L IS
Ok. ;)
How much will it cost? Four times the price of 17-40? ;)

The reason why those LCDs save energy is because the have no backlight.
They have, but it's not illuminated all the time like on RGB screens. And they have less pixels/segments. But maybe also an RGB-screen would consume almost no energy when backlight is off? The problem is that they are difficult to read from without backlight. :(

My 700D wishlist:
...
monochrome lcd

Why would a monochrome LCD be beneficial?  I understand the exposure value would be easy to determine based on a monochrome, but your WB could be totally jacked up.  I don't think there is a cost benefit to manufacturing monochrome displays anymore, it might actually be more expensive than a 65K color display.

+1

Putting something like that on a expensive new camera model would make it a sure failure and lose millions for a company.
Hum, scaleusa? Did I find some irony in there?

Kyle, I like a monochrome display like on 60D, 7D, etc, because they save energy. When you're traveling without electricity around this is very beneficial. I don't care about WB because I'm using RAW.

EDIT: I mean an additional monochrome LCD. ;)

you're right, I mixed up the numbers.. anyway, you see where I'm going; I want a crop camera with an actual noticeable improvement in ISO-performance over the current models and not just more MP..
ISO-perfomance wouldn't increase much (on equal output size). Dynamic range would increase...

rebel size Mg body

19 AF points
7+ fps
jogdial + joystick
no scene modes
additional monochrome lcd

cr-guy postet my photoshopped 500D before, so some of you might know... :)

BTW, aren't we due a new 'Rebel' around that time? It will be interesting to see what new features they'll put in it over the 550D.  Unless they plan on going to a longer release schedule, I'd think it would have to be the same 18MP sensor.
This is exactly what I was thinking about... Edit: Although I don't see any specs that could go into a 600D. The 550D is pretty well equipped, I think.
Maybe they really go back to a 1.5 yr cycle...

Yes but unfortunately no "eye" sensor (as on T2i) to switch off the display.
This could be irritating when taking multiple exposures, also the display does switch off when pressing shutter release halfway.
Not unfortunately. Unlike as on T2i, the 60D's RGB-LCD is off by default. All necessary information is on the monochrome LCD.

So no 2000D / 1Ds MkIV / 5DMkIII / 3D  from Canon... :(
I kinda expected this but it's still a little disappointing... :-\

@Dilbert and @Rocky:
Could you please continue your private-war outside of this thread, maybe via pm, and concentrate on something more "60D-related" than just algebra for screen-measures?
Ah, Dilbert & Rocky again. Could someone (Cobalt720?) do something about it?
