I've snapped the 10-22mm lens in half 3 times now.  First time was right after I got the spider holster and didn't lock the cam in... knelt down, it popped out and slid across the floor in two pieces during a couple's first dance!  

I shoot with 580EXII's outdoors a lot... They've taken several falls atop tipping lightstands.  They break about 1/3 of the time!

50D and 7D and 70-200 have survived falls from waist height... but I just cracked open the 1D X on Friday

Guess I should be more careful...

Basically when you upgrade before your next renew date you get to keep the 2 clean & checks from the Gold and get an additional 6 with the Platinum. Your new renew date is one year from the day you upgrade.

Thanks! I was just wondering the same thing about upgrading before the current year was up.

Hard to tell from the close-up photos, but the crack is by the vertical grip shutter.

So you've invented a new Canon lens, that can't be used for landscape photography? 

For sure.  It's a rare one-off. Priceless item, but I'm willing to open the bidding...

Happened Friday night, and I wasn't too concerned, since I somehow only noticed the scratches, not the crack at the time.  My heart dropped when I saw it in the morning 

At least it appears the crack is in a separate piece from the main chassis, so hopefully it's fixable without resorting to black RTV.

Oh, the 24-70 didn't fair too well either... filter ring hit the cement (no filter).  No glass shattered, but now it's a 30-70mm that won't focus to infinity.

Word of advice... don't test the build quality by tossing your 1D X off a speeding golf cart... 




I'm sure Canon will repair at no charge as a reward for me finding the weak spot  Still works fine, but not exactly weather sealed anymore.

So, a lot of people will now be moving up a spot in the Amazon and Crutchfield queue Or cancel and order from Tally's to have one in your hands next week.

Per my most recent communication with Crutchfield, they have no shipment update from Canon, but, "It looks like you may be in the top five orders." So I've possibly moved up 3+ spots in the queue in the last week.
