So... is $1,087.32 for this lens from the Canon refurb store as good a deal as it feels like?  It's slightly lower even than some completed Ebay listings for used copies.  Oh well, I already ordered.  I was almost totally prepared to spring for the new price anyway, so any savings are good savings.  You can all feel responsible for your great shots convincing me to get yet another lens...

It's pretty hard to beat that price.  They rarely get that low used (around $1200 is more typical), and this way you get some kind of warranty.  Beyond that, there aren't many on the used market.  I don't think it has been a volume seller and most of us that have one hang on to them!

I looked at this too, I was a little leery because the 70-300L is one of the few that doesn't reference a 90 day warranty like a number of other lenses do. Saving 300 bucks is pretty nice though.

Is it only the T3I that supports video crop mode? What about the T4I and T5I. I have been thinking about getting a 2nd body, and this is kind of a cool feature I also wish my 5D3 had.

Ahh I read a review from when the lens first came out, maybe it's come down in price quite a bit? 170 isn't as bad as 300. Thanks.

I am thinking about getting this lens. My question though for those of you who have it, concerns the tripod ring. Did you purchase one? Or do you attach your tripod to the body. Canon selling the tripod ring for an additional 300 bucks, sort of negates the cost advantage this lens has over the 100-400.

I rented a 100-400 for two weeks and liked the image quality but the weight did get annoying.

This would be my second lens, I have a 5dmark3 and the kit lens.

Having a seriously difficult time deciding between it and the 100-400, I was pretty much go for the 70-300L until I heard about the lack of a tripod ring and the crazy price for it.

Wondering if someone can help me here, I have only had my 5d3 for about three weeks. I tried to do a few macro shots today, (Close ups of flowers) using the kit lens.

Autofocus was spot on looking through the view finder but I could not get the camera to take the picture, nothing happened when pushing shutter. If I dropped to manual focus on lens or zoomed further out it worked fine. I haven't done much Macro before, is there something I am missing?

Or was the camera telling me I was too close even though it looked ok?

I can't find this in the manual and not much luck with google, what is ok to clean smudges and fingerprints off the screen on a Canon DSLR (5d mark 3)?

Is something like eyeglass wipes or monitor cleaner too harsh?

Is the video digital zoom of the T3I possible on the 5DMK3? I know it's mostly a gimmick feature and probably not right for the audience of this camera but curious.

It's no gimmick, sadly it lacks it. It's really a shame it didn't have a 2x2 blocked 1.6x cropped mode. GH2 has a super useful zoom mode, the nikons have zoom modes. They are fantastic for wildlife, for one. But for whatever reason, Canon is the maker who left it out.

Yeah I thought it was a really cool feature myself, someone else blasted me over it on another forum though. I guess I can hope if they do a 7d mark2 they include it there.
