If their tests run positively, maybe we can rename them to 1DxO   :o

Lenses / Re: 24-105mm f/4 L IS on a crop camera
« on: May 18, 2012, 10:59:46 AM »
I used to have a Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 nonIS on my 40D and 'upgraded' to a 24-105L and have no regrets at all.

My lineup on the 7D  is 12-24 Tokina, 24-105L as a walkaround, and a 70-300 as a Tele, I have the 24-105 for universal use, on a very rare occcasion as a portrait lens at ~105mm (nice OOF) but for dedicated portraits it does not beat the primes at 50mm or 85mm.

For the price the Tamron is a great deal, maybe you keep it for your wife's 450D,
the 24-105 may be useful on a future FF body, too.

Examples?

EOS Bodies / Re: Nikon owns Canon - in TV commercials

In Germany we see frequent Canon ads on TV - looking forward to European Football Championships (err, 'soccer')
as Canon is a Sponsor

I don't know if the one linked below is genuine canon stuff - but I like it just for playing with "yellow"

Hi Raddy,

I own a Flipside 400 AW and put in the following

- gripped 7D + 24-105L
- EF 50mm f/1.4
- EF-S 60mm f/2.8
- EF 85mm f/1.8
- EF 70-300mm
- Tokina 12-24
- 580II Speedlite

on the side 2 x 1L water
in the pocket some useful stuff like tissues, a lens brush etc.
and on top you can put a jacket or so.

I have to say that I do not love to carry these 10kg around all day long...

looks like this:

Software & Accessories / Re: PC power to process RAW photos
« on: April 22, 2012, 06:17:03 AM »
It could  be useful to check if there is a USB 3.0 port.

If yes, then check if the internal hard disk may be replaced with a SSD, ideally a SATA III like Samsung, Intel or OCZ. Depends on the budget but a combination of an internal SSD with e.g.  256GB and an additional external drive with 1GB might be a powerful and fast.

EOS Bodies / Re: What will be the response to the D3200?

:o I did not know that some day I'd post a link to NikonUSA...

it's not just a rumour... it's here:
http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product/Digital-SLR-Cameras/25492/D3200.html#tab-ProductDetail-ProductTabs-Overview

$699.95

...so will we see a 1200D or a 2000D or even an EVIL 'Eosette' or Canonette at Photokina?
Or a 650D with a 22MP APS-C? [hopefully not!]
MY GF's PC (Core2Duo) has problems to process the 18MP RAWs of the 600D... so 24MP?! For beginners?? SRSLY???

Technical Support / Re: Canon 7D Unusual Problem?
« on: April 16, 2012, 02:42:45 PM »
I have a gripped 7D and as soon as I open the battery door of the battery grip or the CF door the display simply goes off: no flashing, no blinking...

...when closing the battery door the red bulb below the wheel blinks. That's all.

I assume that you are using a genuine Canon LP-E6, right?

EOS Bodies / Re: 5d Mark iii file size?
« on: April 16, 2012, 02:20:55 PM »
I had the chance to have a 5DIII in my hands and insert one of my CF cards.
The JPGs have 5MB, the RAWs have from 27 to 33MB.
Unfortunately I can't remember the exact camera's settings...

an ISO 5000 example including Exif is here:
