Pricewatch Deals / Re: Canon eStore PowerShot Sale
« on: January 14, 2015, 06:49:24 AM »
Is this a clearance sale as the G17 is expected to be announced next month at CP+. Is a successor planned for the S120?

Canon has reduced select PowerShot cameras by as much as $130 via their eStore including the PowerShot G16, PowerShot S120 and PowerShot G7 X.

Darn, there goes that Canonitis again:

Noun/Latin origin - To never go the full step you really need to innovate and take over the market :-\

we are at the point where your choice of lens will have more impact on your photos than the choice of camera body or your choice of manufacturer.

I'd say we have been there for years already. I'd much rather shoot a Rebel DSLR with the best lenses than a 5DIII with a kit lens.

Let's just hope it doesn't suffer Canonitis. :-[

That's kind of weak for a superzoom, and not much on the wide end either, but if it has excellent IQ (especially at f2) then I guess it still has potential.
Compared to the competition, it's class leading. There are currently two 1" sensored large zoom cameras out there.

The Sony RX10 with a 24-200 equivalent zoom, and a fixed f2.8 aperture. This rumoured spec clearly beats that.

And then there's the Panasonic FZ1000 with a 25-400 equivalent lens with a variable f2.8 to f4 aperture. This rumoured camera only has half the telephoto reach, but it lets in four times as much light at full zoom.

PowerShot Cameras / S120 Successor?
« on: December 26, 2014, 09:45:10 PM »
Granted there has been the G7X, however that is more of a Sony RX100 competitor and significantly more upscale at $700 compared to the S series which typically has ranged $400-$450.

S120 is currently down to $399 so maybe a successor is in the works, otherwise Canon seems to have a gap in their line up. Think we will see a replacement coming in January as it is now past due?

PowerShot Cameras / Re: Canon to Target The GH4 With New DSLR Type? [CR2]
« on: December 15, 2014, 09:50:52 AM »
Boring Canon yet again. Stop targeting start innovating!

First they targeted the Sony RX100 III and just like the Canon G1X II, missed the target.

Now targeting Panasonic....jeeez!!

We’re told that Canon will be directly targeting the Panansonic GH4 at NAB 2015 in Las Vegas this spring. The new camera will have a 1″ sensor, shoot 4K and will be very portable, which sounds like similar specs to an upcoming camcorder. This little camera will have a removable viewfinder and grip and will most likely be small enough to be mounted to drones and other like devices.

The term “a different style DSLR” was used when describing this camera, but I’m not sure what sort of lens mount the camera would have, EF? EF-S? EF-M? Something new? A DSLR with a 1″ sensor? I wrote a few days ago that I didn’t think Canon would care much about this market, which I guess was wrong, as this comes from a solid source. I do hold on to the idea that the professional cinema market being where growth is going to come from. We’re hoping for more information in the coming weeks.

More to come…

Now thats even better than:

Canonitis (Noun/Latin Origin)
- To never go the full step you really need to innovate and take over the market.

CameraLabs???? :-\ :-\ :-\

The post is about the CameraStore. LOL

I guess you didn't like the part about:

Seem to be more an Canonose / Canonnosis, a degenerative process.....

Sorry to hear, but seems consistent with what others are experiencing with the soft images and AF issues

I have used the camera since friday. It is inconsistent in af accuracy. Most pictures are soft. When all hits then the pics are great but for a $700 convience camera it shoukd work better than that. I would like to consider the rx100 but do not like the short focal range and handling. I think the extra bulk and IQ would be better invested in the sony a6000 for the money. At least your carrying apsc sized sensor and hopefully the af can keep up.

Looks good, hopefully the G7X II will surpass the RX100 III:

"In terms of the direct competition, the Canon PowerShot G7 X has definitely made a big leap forwards. Compared to the very popular Sony Cyber-shot RX100 Mk III, it's a very close-run thing, with the lack of a viewfinder (or any way of fitting an external one) on the G7 X being the biggest single reason to choose the Sony model for the keen photographer. If you don't need this feature, then the touchscreen capabilities of the G7 X are very compelling, as is the longer lens range, although the Sony RX100 Mk III's screen can be tilted both up and down. For us, the built-in EVF gives the Sony model the edge, but your mileage may vary according to which features you most value. Both are equally worthy of consideration."

PhotographyBlog has completed their review of the Canon PowerShot G7 X and came away impressed for the most part.

They are biased or do you share that view towards anyone who goes against your own views?

The CameraStore is right on with the comments about both cameras and consistent with other reviews. The G7X looks good on paper, but Canon was only able to get a longer focal length by cropping the sensor...result ~ distorted WA and 100mm shots.

BTW, welcome to the Canon Rumor Forum.

Cameralabs has their full review up and the camera compared quite sell to the Sony RX100 MIII. The Canon focuses faster, has more blur in the photos, enjoys the ability to pull focus in videos and compares closely in optical quality beating out the Sony at 50mm, 70mm. He scores both 89 points. I'm looking forward to mine.

I thought this site is about Canon cameras and this post is about an early review on the G7X so relax. I've never heard of Camera Store and after reading the post about those guys being biased I didn't bother to watch it. Cameralabs is well respected for doing non biased in-depth reviews and he does a straight up comparison between the Canon and the Sony (and LX100 for that matter). It's comical that people on here can be so persuaded by one video review of this camera from out in left field. Time will tell once DP Review finishes their comprehensive review but I own this camera and it's doing everything as expected for me which is inline with the review on Cameralabs. If you don't find another viewpoint relevant to discussing merits of this camera then why are you on here? Just stop at the first post and move on.

Yes that's correct, if you wanted a pocketable camera, the dimensions of the RX100 III fits the criteria much better and you get an EVF. :)

Far easier to fit a Sony RX100 III into a pocket than a Canon G7X

WTF??

Sony RX100-III: 4.0 x 2.3 x 1.6" / 101.6 x 58.1 x 41.0 mm
PowerShot G7 X: 4.1 x 2.4 x 1.6" / 104.1 x 61.0 x 40.6 mm

Far easier? Care to share whatever it is you're smoking/drinking/injecting that makes you think 2.5mm more width, 1.9mm more height, and 0.4mm less depth makes any sort of significant difference that would mean it's far easier to fit the RX100-III into a pocket than the G7 X?
