Yep your 24-70 II and 135mm is all you need really, you can and will sell the rest after you've discovered the 24-70 mkii (I did), its just that good!

How'd you manage to get the pass?

If you already have the 50L and enjoy it, just keep it and add the 135, or the 85.

Once you get your mkiii you won't be using your 7d much or at all ;)
It is such an amazing camera, congratulations! And you'll love the AF system!
Read up an online manual or something on it whilst you wait..

Highly recommend one of these for budget tripods, it only cost me $60 aud and I used it for ages. It held up my rebel with 17-55 and also my 5d mkii with 17-40. Not to mention its super light and quite compact, carried it everywhere on my camera bag.
But do be wary of using the center column ;) know its limitations and work around it, as that's what you'll have to do when saving some $$.

I'd suggest getting the 24-70 II, such a great general purpose lens that can be used for landscapes as well. Having one great lens whilst traveling is ideal, you don't want to be carrying around so much gear.
Then a general purpose lowlight prime like the sigma 35 f1.4.

Another thread turned into a test chart comparison argument. I'm surprised there's no BBQ in these photos.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Maybe I need to relearn how to focus
« on: April 08, 2013, 06:35:01 PM »
2.  I used the viewfinder to compose/focus.  Center focus point was used.  I used the AF but I would manually tweak focus before releasing the shutter.  Maybe that's the problem.  With the T3i and the 100 2.8L, I just used AF.

Do you have any shots without manually tweaking the focus yourself?
Shooting macro handheld with such shallow dof, it's best not to focus recompose, use the outer focus points, they're fine for still shooting in good lighting, or crop accordingly.

You and others do not seems to understand the difference of what we are discussing, moreover, many photos was taken with  my 5dmk2.
and in several cases it is better to use Nikon , as here, where the contrast is high in the scene and there are pattern noise in the woman's shirt from 5dmk2

You are absolutely correct. The 5D series has such poor dynamic range that it is utterly useless, particularly as a landscape camera (where the D800 shines), as can be clearly seen by my enclosed photo, taken with a 5Diii...

Terrible photo due to not having enough DR sorry, also if we blow it up and print at 300% we will see banding and noise in the shadows. You need to buy Nikon. ;)

Lenses / Re: Tamron 24-70 f2.8 or Canon 24-105 f4 ??
« on: March 31, 2013, 07:23:12 PM »
Depends what aperture you shoot at also, if you're shooting landscape and architecture you'd probably be using at least f8 or f11, and between the two lenses, there's little difference in image quality at those apertures, even the 17-40 @ 24mm will have little to no noticable difference in image quality.

But you should also consider barrel distortion. The 24-105 @ 24mm has a massive amount of distortion, which isn't good for architecture, but also when I stacked a couple of filters it had terrible harsh vignetting from the filters, I assume due to the amount of distortion this lens shows, as I did the same on my 24 II and had no vignetting.
But the Tamron is only slightly better in this regard, and the 17-40 @ 24mm is probably the best out of the three at controlling distortion.

If I were you, I'd just get the 17-40, especially since you're going to get an ultra wide down the track. Unless you need the focal length between the 17-40 and your 70-200 then the 17-40 is a great performer for the price, since you're shooting at f8+ anyway. It can also do ultra wide, and is much much lighter and smaller than the two, and may come out a little cheaper even if it doesn't come in a kit.

But if you must decide between the two, I'd get the Tamron. It's a better all rounder lens if you're just mainly comparing image quality, and you may need 2.8 one day, and when you're not shooting at f8+ the Tamron will produce sharper images and have better colour reproduction.
But it also has a 82mm filter thread, so that may be a problem if you currently use filters or looking at getting filters in future. 82mm costs alot more, so factor that into your kit costs as well.

Though either way you'd be good, the 24-105 is a great lens as well, I've had no complaints about mine (other than when stacking filters, which I worked around anyway), and only sold it because I got the 24-70 ii.
