Thanks for your answer, well I think you misunderstood me, I obviously don't use AF for video, haha :)
It is only for photography, but I'll look at that kenko TC! Thanks

Software & Accessories / canon extender vs others, what to get?
« on: September 22, 2012, 02:05:29 PM »
Hey guys,

I m getting a 5dm3 at some point next month (upgrade from my 550d) i currently use a 100-400mm L and will prob get the kit lens with the 5d. Now that upgrade to FF i'll loose some length and was looking into adding an extender to my gear. (cost effective)

I earn money with making videos, but I love to take photos of wildlife, now I've been looking at some extenders, the Canon 1.4 III seemed to be my first choice, but I read it had AF  problems on f/8, also I don't really know much about extenders and what others options to consider.

Any suggestions please?

digitalrev dropped the 5dm3 price by £50 two days ago, so hopefully this trend keeps going strong....wish i'd live in the us then i would've bought a 5dm3 already...f*cking overpriced in europe...

i know it's contradictory but you have to way the options of" getting caught and paying" vs. "warranty in the us"

I went to New York in April to buy a 5dm3 alongside with a lot of other gear, we just got everything out of the boxes and actually made it look like we ve used the gear before (put stickers on the case etc.) You just have to be smart, I mean we didn't even get checked on the way back to the UK, just get your story right and you should be fine. You'll have to throw away all the warranty stuff etc. though otherwise if they check you, you're screwed i guess :P

so the cheapest d600 i can find for the UK is £1800($2900)  which is £300 less than for the 5dm3, that's not exactly the "cheap entry FF" price tbh, I know it'll drop but I would have considered switching to nikon at a cheaper price!

I would certainly rent out the mark iv, but for one a one month trip to tanzania the rental costs are so high that i could buy a new one, at least here in manchester.

Hey guys,

I am currently looking to upgrade from my 550D, now the thing is we just started out own production company next to university and are getting quite a few paid jobs, but I m really at the limit of the 550D.

I am going to Tanzania in January filming for my final uni project for a month (wildlife doc) and want to have a nice camera with me to film, but also I m really into wildlife photography so getting a 5d mark II wouldn't really do the job FPS/AF wise. I will have about £1500 (2300$) saved up by next month so I am really struggling to make a decision, I mean a 7D would be nice FPS wise, but then again for filming it's not really any upgrade to my 550D and the 5D mark ii is just a bit old now i suppose just like the 7d

I guess waiting for Photokina would be probably the best choice? (7d mark ii, fingers crossed)

Any suggestions?

thanks!
