Software & Accessories / "cheap" video tripod
« on: October 07, 2012, 06:16:04 PM »
Hey guys,

I m looking to buy a tripod, now I have been looking into the manfrotto series and I do like the 501HDV/701 head but it is a bit pricey, what I m not sure on are the legs, I'd prefer something with carbon fibre but it is obviously expensive, I will use either a 1dm4 or 5dm3 on it...

Now my budget isn't high at all (trying to keep it below £200/$320), but I just need something decent that will not fly over by a gush of wind and is light as I m planning to take it trekking etc.... any suggestions?

Thanks!

Lenses / Re: Canon Teleconverters Question

a 1.4X II will stack to a 2XII, the 1.4X must be on the camera side.  I don't know if any other combination works.
I have a Kenko 1.4X on order to try with my 5D MK III for focus at f/8, and I'll be seeing how it stacks.  I also got a older 2X TC, which is likely a Sigma or Kenko but branded Quantaray, its actually ok, but does not allow AF at f/8 with my bodies, they just can't find focus.

which kenko 1.4x are you getting? I was thinking of ordering the Pro 300 1.4X DGX as I read somewhere it will focus at f/8 on the 5dm3

EOS Bodies - For Video / Re: Camera choice mark ii? 7d? wait?

I was thinking of the 7d, but it's just too old now and the ISO performance isn't good enough for me as i sometimes need to do low light filming, (concerts/clubs) so I'll get the 5dm3 at the end and pay the price as it just has better video options than the 1dm4...

Renting out isn't an option for me as it's way too expensive, and I have panasonic hpx500's available for short time renting from my university at no cost.

I would probs buy the 5dm3 with the kit lens and sell my 550D+the tamron lens to my mate, the thing with the 60D is that i don't really like it's ISO performance, and as I live in England and it's virtually always raining something weather sealed would be nice, even though i know my 100-400L isn't weather sealed.

I'd just consider the 1d mark iv because of the aps-h which would give me a bit more range, plus it's a beast when it comes to photography, but then again i earn my money making videos. So my head is breaking! I have about £2700 pounds to invest all together for a new camera+wide-mid range zoom.

From the looks of it is either 5dm3+kit lens or a used 1dm4+17-40mm possibly...

I've got a 100-400L and a Tamron 17-50VC, so I m not too heavily invested in anything....but due to a little financial boost I m now looking at either the 5d mark iii or a used 1d mark iv

Software & Accessories / Re: canon extender vs others, what to get?
« on: September 22, 2012, 03:14:22 PM »
Thanks for your answer, well I think you misunderstood me, I obviously don't use AF for video, haha :)
It is only for photography, but I'll look at that kenko TC! Thanks

Software & Accessories / canon extender vs others, what to get?
« on: September 22, 2012, 02:05:29 PM »
Hey guys,

I m getting a 5dm3 at some point next month (upgrade from my 550d) i currently use a 100-400mm L and will prob get the kit lens with the 5d. Now that upgrade to FF i'll loose some length and was looking into adding an extender to my gear. (cost effective)

I earn money with making videos, but I love to take photos of wildlife, now I've been looking at some extenders, the Canon 1.4 III seemed to be my first choice, but I read it had AF  problems on f/8, also I don't really know much about extenders and what others options to consider.

Any suggestions please?

digitalrev dropped the 5dm3 price by £50 two days ago, so hopefully this trend keeps going strong....wish i'd live in the us then i would've bought a 5dm3 already...f*cking overpriced in europe...

i know it's contradictory but you have to way the options of" getting caught and paying" vs. "warranty in the us"

you can get a 5dm3 from digitalrev for £2139 ($3450) imported into UK without any charges, just saying...

I went to New York in April to buy a 5dm3 alongside with a lot of other gear, we just got everything out of the boxes and actually made it look like we ve used the gear before (put stickers on the case etc.) You just have to be smart, I mean we didn't even get checked on the way back to the UK, just get your story right and you should be fine. You'll have to throw away all the warranty stuff etc. though otherwise if they check you, you're screwed i guess :P

so the cheapest d600 i can find for the UK is £1800($2900)  which is £300 less than for the 5dm3, that's not exactly the "cheap entry FF" price tbh, I know it'll drop but I would have considered switching to nikon at a cheaper price!

I would certainly rent out the mark iv, but for one a one month trip to tanzania the rental costs are so high that i could buy a new one, at least here in manchester.
