EOS Bodies / Re: Are there 39mp & 50mp+ Test Bodies in the Wild? [CR1]
« on: October 22, 2012, 09:09:37 AM »
I'd be more interested in the 39MP camera as opposed to the 50+ one. A 50+ MP photo would surely kill my 4 year old computer.

Possibly because they're marketing machine is trying to convince the user base that 20MP class cameras are enough for everyone's needs?
My thoughts exactly. They just released some new camera bodies this year. Having people hold off on purchases (like I am) because there's potentially a more suitable camera just around the corner does not help their sales.

EOS Bodies - For Stills / Re: Canon EOS-1D X DXOMark Sensor Scores
« on: October 11, 2012, 10:11:21 AM »
I will believe these numbers when I see them on the DXO site itself.

Come to think about it: some folks who tried to lift the shadows in 1DX images do not find the performance any better than the 5D3... Hmmm...
What? You don't believe the numbers posted on a rumor's website? How absurd!

lol, I couldn't resist. :p

Seriously though, I've never cared about the numbers. I just look at photos 1:1 and if they look good, detail and color, then that's good enough for me.

EOS Bodies / Re: Why are flash sync shutter speeds getting worse?
« on: October 11, 2012, 10:05:16 AM »
It would be nice if at least Canon's 1D line supported 1/500 or 1/1000 sync speed. Its a noticeable difference in light intensity when going from full sync to high speed sync. Add a light modifier to soften the light and that makes things even worse.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Deal: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Body for $2899
« on: October 09, 2012, 02:41:31 PM »
Should I get it now? Should I leave it and just keep using my 40D? Should I just get a used 5D2 instead? Should I wait to hear what Canon is planning at the end of this month? Should I just go for the 1DX?

That's an amazing price. I hope I don't regret not purchasing it. :( Hellllp!!!

EOS Bodies / Re: Is Canon EOS-1S the Name? [CR1]
« on: October 08, 2012, 04:01:48 PM »
For me, 46MP would be more than I need. I'm already doing well with a 40D, but there are times when I could use some more resolution. I like my 40D for headshots and closeups, but not so much for portraits and wider angle work unless detail isn't important. I'm waiting to see what Canon announces. I'm curious as to what size sensor this camera will have. Also, what to expect in image quality with the current lineup of lens. It doesn't make sense to have a high resolution, soft and noisy image that I then have to resize to 22MP in order to make it look as good as a 5D2/3 image.

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 3D Outed by B&H Photo [CR0]
« on: October 03, 2012, 05:42:11 PM »
Yeah, that's definitely fake. They'd most likely post it as a pre-order item. Also, I've never seen a DSLR listing where you can't clearly read the model from the photo. Also, BH always show the Compare checkbox under all of their cameras.

So yes, it was simply taken from the 1Dx page and doctored to add fuel to the hype fire.

I have a feeling that this new camera is also going to be mirrorless. Hence a pro version of the EOS M with a digital viewfinder.

Pricewatch Deals / Re: Big Canon EOS 5D Mark II Price Drop Coming
« on: September 29, 2012, 06:49:30 PM »
Given that I'm using a 40D right now, I'll checkout the used ones as soon as the price drops. If I can get a used one for about $1000 with a decent shutter count around, around 30K, then I'm good. However, this all depends on what Canon announces in October. If they come out with a reasonably priced high MP camera that's great for portrait, macro and weddings (I don't need action), then I'll get that... and maybe still get a 5D2 as backup. :p. I'd retire my 40D if I didn't have the 10-22mm. Its such an awesome lens.

Is it that its popular or that there's limited supply? If its popular, then Canon did well with the new speedlite. I have 3 580ex IIs so I won't be upgrading. The downside to this trigger is that it is not compatible (not even limited) with the older speedlites. The benefit of 3rd party triggers is their compatibility with other strobes and studio strobes.

Canon made their most popular lens sharper in preparation for this camera. I'm curious to see how good this camera will be. I'm also curious about the price. If it rings in around $10K, then I'll be taking a closer look at the Pentax 645D.

EOS Bodies / Re: 46.1mp Canon DSLR Previewed at PhotoPlus 2012? [CR1]
« on: September 25, 2012, 12:09:56 AM »
My only concerns are:
1. How much ISO at the top end will be sacrificed for this. I'd hope that this can still do 3200-6400 natively.
2. How much will something like this cost? A kidney?
3. I'd have to upgrade my computer. I'm using a 40D right now (10MP RAW) and my computer is managing fine. But post processing times will drop considerably when editing a 46MP file.
4. Storage space. This would require huge CF cards plus great disk space. My workflow usually involves converting to TIFF format then additional editing in Photoshop.

With a 46MP resolution, and if its priced higher than the 1DX, its going to be compared to medium format digital cameras. Unless Canon pulls off a miracle with the sensor, or use a MF sensor, it won't stand a chance when stacked up against the big boys.

Ummm... wasn't this already known from the start. From the initial batch of high ISO 5D3 pictures I've seen, there was always a color shift when going from 12800 to 25600. If the photo was taken with the 5D3 at 12800 then there wouldn't be a color shift. In either case, the color shift can be corrected in post and is the least of your worries.
