Lenses / Re: Most requested lenses for replacement?

The world needs a 50L II.

I want it to be sharper wide open (on par with wide open shots from the 85L II and 135L), and I want it to be free from focus shift issues.

EOS Bodies / Re: Who is waiting for Canon Mirrorless?

I am waiting for Canon, or Nikon, or Sony or whoever to release an affordable full frame mirrorless. I'd like it to be similar to the Leica M9, but with a pricetag that doesn't kill your economy!

Tho I'm afraid that Canons first mirrorless camera will be a crapster with a compact sensor.

I do not care for CX at all. It is just a S___ty compact cam sensor size which is diffraction limited already at f/4.0 and has DOF like a compact camera. No need whatsoever. Leave that thing to Nikon.
+1

I'd be a disaster if Canon's long awaited mirrorless is a "crapcam" with a compact sensor. Fun for the kids, but for the rest of us, not so much.

I want Canon's version of the Leica M9.

I wonder if this has something to do with the fact that Canon can't compete with the performance of Nikon's new Exmor sensor? :D There are many angry canonites out there who are disappointed at Canon because of the 5D3's lackluster DR, and the fact that banding is still an issue..

.. Can't beat them, join them?

I'll be the first to preorder Nikon's DSLR with EF mount!

They gave them the same ratings - which is political. But the Mk3 got spanked in a few important areas - jpg detail, and movie quality.
Sure, but the biggest spanking is in the low ISO dynamic range department. It is no overstatement to say that the 5D3 gets completely blown out of the water by the DR capabilities of the D800.

The D800 also has some very useful features that Canon deliberately skiped, just because of their silly market segmentation. Like spot metering being linked to selected AF point.. Even the low end Nikon DSLR's has this one.  :P

Nudy?

Asian brand names can be quite interesting. Sometimes they just grab random english word, or words and put them together. :D

I would love to rebuy the 50L if it wasn't such a "mixed feelings-lens".

I love the creamy bokeh and special rendering of this lens, but the focus shift issues and the somewhat soft results at wide open, just cant be overlooked.

The 35L, 135L and 85L are all very sharp wide open. So why can't the 50L be?

This is really nice, but a little soft, i'm presuming that was in post?
Thanks. :) Yes the soft look is something I did in post. Some like it, some dislike it.

Superb image, but the eyes post... dont look as nice as the rest of the pic  :-\
Thank you! But the look of her eyes was not made in post. She is using something called "korean doll eye lenses". These lenses make your iris look way bigger and they also intensify detail and add color.

The doll eye lenses and circle lenses sell like hotcakes here in Asia. Young asian girls want to look like anime characters, and I must admit that it looks pretty darn cute.

There are many different types and sizes. You can see one example here:

EOS Bodies / Re: Mirrorless Vs Regular DSLR -- Your thoughts???

The main thing I like about mirrorless cameras is the smaller size and that there is no mirrorslap.

The con is that the only affordable mirrorless with FF is the uber expensive Leica M9.

I am still waiting for Canon, Nikon or Sony to make a full frame mirrorless.  ;)

Please oh pleaaaaaseee, let it be a full frame mirrorless!

Then Canon can just shut up and take my money.

It seems that some people in this thread are looking at the wrong camera. This camera is designed mainly for still photography, NOT video.

Video is just a small "side bonus" on the 5D3, so don't be so surprised if Canon doesn't give you the features you want. They are saving all the good stuff for the 1DC-line. That is where you should be looking.

For video when compared to the D800, it lacks several major / almost crucial features.
Same as with the still photography features.  ;)

Alas, it is a shame that most of the missing features can't be added by firmware. Like more resolution, more DR, and spot metering linked to selected AF point. (Just to name a few).

Still talking about the sensor......

There is much improved in the 5D Mark III to give us the shot we want...
And that's what counts.
Ah yes, the sensor.. Kind of important, don't you think?

While the 5D3 might be a great upgrade for people coming from the 7D, XXD, or the rebel line, it is a very underwhelming and disappointing upgrade for the 5D2 crowd.

Not everyone wants to pay 3500 bucks for fixed AF, ratebutton and more FPS.

It is not very surprising i.m.o. The 5D3's sensor technology seems to be basically the same as with the first 5D. It improved very marginally every generation after that.

While Nikon brings out innovative and impressive features together with their (Sony's) awesome Exmor sensor, Canon looks like they are very much focused on video over stills.
