EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS 5D Mark III Product Advisory

Though the D800 isn't immune from an early hiccup either. Forget what it was/is. Not that I'm considering a D800 or D4.

I heard D800 have an issue with green/yellow tint with its rear LCD screen

I only use Photoshop, and even batching that many is annoying because I have to stay at the computer and hit enter every time it opens / saves a new file.

I would open the folder containing RAW files using Adobe Bridge. Select all RAW files and open with ACR. Then inside ACR, select all, click save image and save inside the same folder (or where ever you want).
After that you can just close the ACR and it will convert your RAWs one by one. There is no need to keep pressing enter.

Software & Accessories / Re: Automatic Microfocus adjustment software

I heard that the software allows you to register up to 5 bodies. Is that true?
For those who owns both Canon and Nikon system, do they have to buy a separate license for each system?

Nope... Not an in-camera HDR. It's a 7 exposure AEB, Photomatix 4 & PS CS6 Beta

4 shots out of 12? That is not very assuring.... I hope that's not the best it can do...

I'm sure, with more training and experience, the hit rate will increase...

In my opinion, there's nothing wrong or bad discussing D800.

But since there's no comparison with (or even a mention of) any EOS body by the OP, I say the post is under the wrong sub-category.

Be nice... There's no reason to be rude...

EOS Bodies / Re: Those not getting sharp images from the 5D III...

Looooong time lurker first time poster. Have always appreciated the wealth of knowledge on this forum! I notice a lot of people here seem to be having focusing issues with their 5D Mark III. This worried me into performing some tests of my own. After some MFA using the DPP method someone kindly posted (thanks!) I am now extremely happy with what this wonderful camera is able to produce - tact sharp images! At least, to my non-professional enthusiast eye (happy to hear to the contrary though!).

Enjoy your cameras, the 5D III is (to me) perfect!

Really sharp... and thanks for the link....

I'm just wondering... how was the quality  from your unit before the microadjustments... was it as bad as the others?

"OMG! Look at that fat DxO score! OUR CAMERA IS WINNER!! Take that, Nikon!"

Funny... because I actually saw several comments like this on Nikon Rumors  ;D

I congratulate Nikon on producing a stellar camera in the D800. Now can someone please post sample images taken with both a D800 and a 5DIII, where the D800 made them a better photographer? I have a feeling that I'll be waiting for a long time.
Easy to spot Canon images they are the ones with banding in the shadows & with burnt out highlights  & very poor  reds , I love the Canon red colour its a great red just like to see more shades of red sometimes.

Reds are poor with defaults from ACR in some Canon models, but I found I can tweak settings and get detail without too much trouble.  For more troublesome color images, I use DPP, which usually nails the color.

Totally agree. The ACR defaults handles Canon's red poorly.
Used to be very frustrating...

EOS Bodies - For Stills / 5DMIII vs 7D for birding
« on: March 21, 2012, 01:33:37 AM »

I'm currently using a 70-200MII + 2xIII for birding and I'm wondering how bad will I miss my 7D by upgrading to 5DMIII?  :-\
A super-tele is definitely a big NO for me.

I know that by going from crop to FF, I'll lose the extra reach. The subject will be smaller in the viewfinder and the extra 4mp of the 5DMIII will not be much of a help.

However, I've seen in another thread here in CR discussing the comparison in DPReview between 5DMIII and D800 by enlarging the 5DMIII image with a slight quality loss on the Canon side.

So, back to my question, how much can we enlarge 5DMIII images until the quality degrades to a level comparable to a 7D image?

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D3 Auto Focus Question

Sorry to show my ignorance, but are you supposed to hear a focus confirmation beep when manual focussing? I've just tried it on my 5DMkIII and ... no confirmation beep whilst manual focussing! Is this a custom setting?

Check out page 348 of the user manual.
