EOS Bodies / Re: Canon 5DIV: 36 MP US $ 3799 TBA in March 2015
« on: November 23, 2014, 07:23:57 AM »
From a video perspective the max resolution of 1920X1080 seems like it will be a nail in the coffin for a lot of people.

Don't get me wrong i understand that most people don't even shoot in 1080 cleanly and if Canon can get it so that AA, Moire and rolling shutter are non existent then yes i agree that 1080 is more than enough for most peoples uses.

Unfortunately people (read: uneducated masses) are demanding 4K for video production work.

The ball is firmly in Canons court on this count.

EOS Bodies / Re: what is the body you want to see canon release next ?
« on: November 15, 2014, 06:50:52 AM »
For me i want a 1DC squeezed into a 5D body.

Im not fussed about massive MP count, I would literally be happy if they were to shrink what is needed to be shrunk for  it all to fit.

It sounds almost like you want something as cheap as this

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Portable-MONOPOD-Tripod-Unipod-Holder-for-Digital-Camera-DSLR-with-Carry-Bag-/370895847154?pt=AU_TripodsMonopods&hash=item565b1d7ef2&_uhb=1

But with the build quality and features of a more expensive brand/model.

Ive used cheap monopods and they work fine for short term use, as well as using expensive monopods.
Sure the more expensive ones made shooting easier but it comes down to what you have on hand at the time and is the amount you are going to use it going to justify the cost over its lifetime.

Otherwise we can tell you what we recommend all we like, end of the day its your $$ and your decision.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Samyang Teases New Lenses
« on: August 21, 2014, 12:38:41 AM »
CR seems out of the loop on this one. I've never heard any speculation on a f/2…only a f/1.4 or f/1.2

Though I do remember a fb post by them a month ago saying a 50mm 1.2 was still a ways out.

If the 28mm T.1.4 is the same lens as the 28mm F2.8 just with some funky gears on it.
Wouldn't that mean that a 50mm 1.4 would be a T1.4 or possibly around an F2-2.8, depending on size?

Don't forget that Samyang also marks their Cinema lenses with T stops instead of F stops.
So it could be a T2 instead of an F2.

Not sure what that would convert out too.

Either way now we have to just wait until they release a 135mm and you can have a decent set of Cine lenses for fairly cheap.

They really need:

4k that is real 4k and not like 1080P

forget all the stupid DNR where they turn even ISO 100 to wax unless it's extreme contrast edges, we want natural 'grain' and detail and we don't want fine surface detail to be turned to mush from plasticky fake looking DNR!

we need 10bits not bits recorded internally, 10bits 4:4:4, compressed, detailed, 4k recorded internally would be great (4:2:2 at worst). (and it should allow 1080p RAW like ML)

and how about just building the zebras and focus 100% box and focus peaking in? basic stuff!

What he said.

Although I'm not really fussed about RAW if they can improve the overall dynamic range.

Listening to people bitch about Canon not cannibalising their Cinema EOS line is all fine and dandy when it comes to the C100/300/500 but in my views the 1DC is fair game.
Its basically a 1DX with a fancy firmware and (supposably a better heat sink, but not proven).
Kill that puppy off from the Cinema line up and put the features that you learned from there into the 1DX2 and 5D4.

EOS Bodies / Re: Patent: Canon 55mm f/1.4 & Other Primes
« on: July 07, 2014, 04:32:14 AM »
Little money in Stills so I am guessing these will be Cinema lenses.

Doubtful otherwise they would be in T stops not F stops.

Is there anything in the patent that says that these are EF lenses? Could they be EF-s or M mount?

From my personal standpoint, the camera itself is good enough for most situations.

They tend to struggle when pushed to over 1600ISO but thats more a complaint against the older sensor than the camera quality.
Video work it has held its own in most situations again the only real drama is when pushing it in low light situations.

Things that annoy me about my 60D:
The rubber on the camera has all but stretched out of shape and is hanging off in places, this was a known fault and you can get replacement rubber if need be.
The eye piece tends to fling off if you have the camera attached to a sling style strap (Black Rapid) due to the rubbing as you walk sometimes. Again not areal issue but it pays to keep an eye on it or find a third party solution that locks on better.

All round its generally a good camera.

Also if you are planning on manual focusing it pays to change out the focusing screen too, makes things a hell of a lot better than the stock screen.

EOS Bodies / Re: New Full Frame Camera in Testing? [CR1]

I would like to see a 1DX mk2 or 5Dmk4 both have the ability to shoot 4K video as well.

The issue i can see though wont be heat, but instead justifying the 1DC and its over inflated price tag.

Third Party Manufacturers / Re: Samyang Teases Some New Lenses

Im just hoping they release more lenses on the longer end of the scale now.

It's all well and good to have a heap of 8-35mm cine lenses and then it jumps to an 85mm.

Im hoping that this announcement is the fabled 50mm and 135mm cine lenses that we have been asking for for about 3 years from them. Hopefully a 100mm Macro Cine lens too for those close ups.

Just to round out the set.

But its probably something like a 6mm wide angle and a bunch of M4/3 adapted existing lenses.

11
They have been saying for 2 years now that they are going to be making a 50mm Cine T1.2 and 135mm Cine T1.5 but every year they then say not this time around and bring out more wide lenses.

8mm, 14mm, 16mm, 24mm, 35mm,  What next 21mm, 25mm and a 28mm Cine lens?

It would be good if they can cover all ends of the Cine lens spectrum.

Give us a 50mm T2.1, 100mm T2.1, 135mm T2.1, and even a 50mm T2.1 Macro. So that we can cover all focal lengths without needing to resort to purchasing a complete Zeiss Cine Lens set.

Canon General / Re: Off Brand: Nikon Announces the D4S
« on: February 25, 2014, 09:01:25 AM »
The Hi4 ISO level is not really much more than a gimmick at this stage in the game.
What next? ISO 1Million?

Neither will mean bugger all if they don't have super clean iso above say 1600-3200

But if nothing else we can rest assure that this camera will get a perfect DXOMark score no matter how poorly it performs in real life usage. ???

EOS Bodies / Re: Canon EOS Rebel SL1/Kiss X7 in White
« on: November 14, 2013, 06:08:36 PM »
See, that's what I don't get . . . I think it looks fine; I wouldn't mind a 5Dmk3 in that color . . . maybe even prefer it (as long as it's the same build quality)

I have to agree. I actually don't mind the colour. If they released a 5D3 and maybe the 24-70 f4 kit in white i would buy it.

Sure its going to get dirty but then again black cameras don't tend to stay "out of the box" black for very long either.

I actually don't think it's that bad - perhaps because I had  low expectations? Although the small size and white color kind of makes it look like a toy.

Could you imagine the outcry if Canon decided to go white with all of its range (from 100D to 1DX) and updating ALL their lenses to white to match?

This forum would implode.  ;D

EOS Bodies / Re: EOS 7D Mark II Basic Specs [CR2]
« on: August 07, 2013, 09:30:35 PM »
Unless, 7D II has super battery - I just don't see 12fps. It will be slower than 1D X. 10fps is fast enough for outdoor sports camera

Unless it was in a 1DX style body. Using the same LP-E4N battery too.
So basically a 1DX just changed from a FF to a APS-C Sensor.
