EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mk III vs D800/E, is the 5D3 better at anything?
« on: March 13, 2012, 08:54:38 PM »
Sad but true. Unfortunately u may also update your list with:
 -Flash system
 -x-sync (real)
 -price
-producers software (does matter so much imho)
-customization options
-shutter durabilty.

I just regret that I own any gear right now. It would be easier to choose having empty backpack...
I am just asking myself a question-There will be many canon users who will keep their gear and add 5d3 to their sets, as they already have some gear, but some of them will switch. A lot of people who make purchase decision right now will choose Nikon because of "the list" and some due to of higher mpix sensor as it's great marketing argument for those who have no detailed information about IQ, studio shooters will probably stay with their already owned 5d2, as there is nothing worth upgrading (no better DR, no need for higher ISOs, no need for better AF, almost same resolution ok- less banding) .So the question is how Canon is going to attract new customers? Price is not a argument for sure. Doesn't it mean they will lost a huge share of the market. Maybe it is not a photo related topic but it's interesting.

I have to admit that your result with ACR is pretty good. However you develop sharpness digitaly by moving sliders, it doesn't come from optics and sensor. It looks good but imho in terms of sharpness and detail ND800 is far better (low isos of course) and resolution is not only a key for achieving this.  Of course images developed by you are cr2 and are faaaar better than official canon samples, which as we all know look like from mobile phone. That is huge difference.

Have the same problem. Lot of Canon lens and would like to switch to Nikon. I am waiting for the reviews however so far D800 has awesome samples, sharpness and DR. Canon just gave us D700, which was launched several years ago. IMHO AF will be same or worse as Nikon (we know canon's great AFs history. Hard decision to make, but there no "WOW" in 5d3. It was when 5d2 was launched (great IQ, high mpix, ISO 100, price and adventage on fast lens). I just don't belive it took 3 years to develop better AF and slightly cleaner high ISO. I do not follow mpix war and marekting however samples from Nikon have really blown my eyes, awesome. Saying same thing about 5d3 wouldn't be true. Another thing is handling and button design etc. Maybe I was used to Nikon , but after using a 5d2 for a year, imho Nikon has far better layout, but that depends on user.
And there is one more thing to consider- I think that 5d3 is a good choice for people that are already invested in Canon, and don't want to loose money, on the other side let's ask yourself a question-what will you buy if u do not have any gear. To be honest I simply envy people who already have good Nikon lens and Nikon FF, they now have opportunity to expand a set with a perfect studio camera, while canon owners, like me, have an opportunity to have better or good AF while other parameters remain almost unchanged.  I am not going to write about the price of the body and new 24-70, as the conclusion is clear.

EOS Bodies / Re: More images from 5D mark III
« on: March 10, 2012, 07:48:20 PM »
I am really oversensitive or just sensitive about image sharpness/softness. I have to admit that image of your dad (many thanks to him by the way) looks good as it is ISO 4000. Pretty good. What I am worried about the most is sharpness at ISO 100, 200. So far, from samples which ware provided on IR and Canon it looks terribly soft for me. Your image shows a positive side for me. I really, really hope the real images from 5d3 at low iso are  sharp. Do u have any photos at low iso? I would be really pleased if you could provide. Anyway, big thanks for current uplaod.

EOS Bodies / Re: 5D Mark III ISO 100 RAW's - NEW
« on: March 08, 2012, 05:48:11 PM »
Of course RAW files should be sharper. people who think different has no idea about that. Some people will buy everything because it's new. That's why producers don't care. There is some issue with new sensor for sure, I also have canon gear but I  am not a fanboy of any gear and can give a honest opinion. Think that Canon focus towards software and digic which is really bad idea as many can see on provided samples. Of course it's ok for people who had a compact cameras before but for dslr users it's really a joke at ISO 100.

OMG. Thats the decision maker for. I will definitely switch to Nikon. Looks like from compact camera. There's nothing to wait for (test, reviews). It shows clearly what Canon did with it's SUPER digic5+....sad.

For me, if 5d3 produces images like we can see now with samples, I switch to Nikon. I wanted a while ago, but those samples are almost decision making, however I will wait for real images and reviews. Thats is not possible in my opinion to make such a fail with 5d3, is it?

If this is true there will be a huge disappointment on the pro/semi pro market waiting for the camera.

Hope that AA filter theory is wrong, on the other side the theory is convincing. I can belive I waited so long and the camera will produce soft images due to AA filter. After I bought canon gear and worked with it for several months I knew that I had made bad decision but I hoped that 5d3 will change a lot. I don't understand guys who say that presented official samples are sharp and ok. Samples are out of detail and very soft (not mentioning the price) We need to wait.

A couple of quick points:

* Wait for real life pics to appear before passing judgement;
* IQ depends largely on the person behind the camera;
* Nikon samples ... no wildlife pics, no landscape pics bar one where the focus is on the flowers and not the background so I can't really compare ... ;
* Trees will be surely be softer than books stacked in a library;
* CANON Images do not mention whether shot in RAW or JPEG (notice the file size?) - though you may have a valid point why CANON would post basic JPEG as samples;
* The most valid comparison would come from shooting the same scene with both cameras otherwise it is comparing apples to oranges considering the variables involved;
* Bad marketing doesn't mean bad product - Hell Nikon's commercial in Bangkok was shot in part by a 5DMII http://www.canonrumors.com/forum/index.php/topic,3976.0.html;
* CANON may not be as stupid as you would like us to believe;

Being an ex-lawyer I could argue this to death but choose not to. I'm not one to slag off a product / person on the basis of 'samples' which are dependent on variables such as human beings behind the camera, choice of lens, choice of focal length, choice of focus point and what not.

Who am I to claim that 5DMIII is the best thing since sliced bread, but I can bet that it won't be as bad as you say. I notice you've slagged off the 5DMII to the extent of claiming that you stopped taking pics with it ... CMON ... with this prejudice, as I said, you are bound to see what you want to see ...

Please don't judge me wrong. I did not like my ex 5d2 due to some things: terrible AF, 1/125 real x sync, no lamp supporting AF in dim light, terrible mattering (all images was underexposed, even checked it with my light meeter, but canon service stated it was ok) I just did not have such a problems with Nikon.
My judgment now is only based on samples provided by Canon. For me it is obvious that a company which brings such awaited product to market makes everything they can to show possibly best images. If this is it, they just did not convince me to stay with them. Of course i will probably wait to see the real tests and reviews, but from what I have seen so far, it's not worth even half of the money. All i need is a 5d2 with some tweeks and it seemed that that 5d3 was that kind of a stuff, however a close look (even just a look) on samples completely change my thinking. Samples look like a step back in quality. Samples are described with lens used, parameters, etc so u have this information. In my opinion it's not the person behind the camera, we don't judge the photos itself, but the quality, sharpness-which are connected only to to camera.

OK. I've got 27" NEC Spectraview, do u think that a person with faulty eyes uses that kind of stuff? Doesn't really matter.

I judge only photos up to ISO 200. Take a closer look @ 100%.

Image 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 13-is it sharp for you? That's a quality? Please don't be funny. Take a look on skin, clothes, eyes, lashes, hair. Than go for Nikon samples and have a comparison. It's not my eyes. Probably u see what u want, even having your eyes checked. I am not talking about small differences, I am talking about huge image quality gap.

EOS Bodies / Re: Nikon D800 vs Canon 5d3 sample images.

Brad/Renato.
Sometimes it is not necessary to see the same image side by side to compare. That is necessary only when the difference is small.
In this case the difference is so obvious that there is no need to put the images side by side, IMHO.
Sanjay

Same opinion here. Followed by marketing, people are happy because new AF, but no one took a look at samples . It's drama for me. There is nothing to compare with D800. I waited for 5D3, having a 5 lens from Canon, but now I decided to sell it and switch, unfortunately. Shame for Canon in my opinion.

« on: March 05, 2012, 07:34:30 AM »
yep. I heve already post some my thoughts about those samples in other topic, but now i realize that there is a topic about it so...

I am a canon user from 1 year. I switched from Nikon. Bad decision-YES!. I waited for 5d3 in order to made my final decsion to stay or go away from Canon.

Speaking about the main topic...

When I firstly saw a 5d3 sample I was in shock-how is it possible? It looks like crap from good high mpix compact camera, not a 3500$ dlsr. There is no sharpness at all. Everything looks crappy and very soft, even photos developed from Raws (animal photo). Every photo looks like  after strong in camera pp. Please take a closer look on eyebrows, lashes, eyes, hair. Guys-it's drama. Than I took a look on D800 (nor E) samples-amazing. I am not a tech guys, but photographer, but from I have seen the decision is obvious and clear. I think thats not about resolution, it's about whole things related with image processing and sensor. 5d3 photos lacs details and sharpness, they look strange in 100% view. What is strange also is that I think that photos from my 5d2 looks better in terms of sharpness and detail. I am frustrated due to being already invested in Canon gear, but I know I will probably sell me lens and switch back to Nikon even losing some money. I would be very happy to see other point of views, especially from more advanced or professional photographers.

Say what you want but firstly I was disappointed with the priced bur after I saw a sample pics from both 5d3 and d800 I think I made my decision. Being honest, samples from canon looks like from kind of high mpix good compact camera. All look like after in camera pp, but even with ISO 200??? Where is sharpness, it looks like crap for me in 100%. After seeing those photos from Canon site i thought maybe it's only due to jpg, but i realize that some photos presented there where taken from RAWs and developed (animal). For me it looks very very bad. Then I took a look on d800 samples. Have a close look on hair, eyebrows, lashes. It's not only due to resolution guys. Take a honest look and judge. Unfortunately for me the 1 year with canon adventure probably finishes. I ll wait till some professional and unbiased reviews but from what I see know I think my decision has been already made. Please take a close look on all samples, and then enter a discussion. That's a huge disappointed for me, not even the price. I would be happy to hear some professional voices.
