I've almost exclusively used my 600mm II with the 2x III attached.  That might all change once a 7D II or equiv. is released. 

Cams: Canon 5D3, EOS M

Artie's subjective evaluations are convenient, because he can change his mind, even contradict previous statements, and it's all 'ok' because it's subjective.

Well, that wasn't my argument. I'd be curious to know if Art has done that more than once, though...I don't gather that he is the kind of person to just waffle about and change his mind as it suits him. I would also point out that someone who is NOT willing to change their mind when faced with evidence that disproves an earlier opinion, would ultimately be "religious" in their views...

@jrista - I have both the 1.4xIII and 2xIII, and after the novelty of f/8 AF (with effectively a single point) wore off, I usually use the 1.4x, and only rarely the 2x. YMMV...

I don't yet have a FF camera, so I will have to see. Birds in Colorado are very jittery, and don't like human activity. It is very difficult to get close, and even though the 2x does have a visible impact on IQ, if it allows you to get significantly more pixels on the subject, it may be worth it...
