Gary Samples and his wonderful photographs inspired me to join CanonRumors in order to post images.  Gary, I must say that your images are spectacular!  Thank you for sharing your images and inspiring the rest of us.

The 1DX is a fabulous camera that has opened up new image capture possibilities with its frame rate and high ISO capabilities.  Whereas I don't like to shoot the 1D Mk IV above ISO 800, I routinely shoot at ISO 5,000 with the 1DX.

Shot details, all taken from a boat.
3 Bald Eagles: 600 mm, F/5.6, 1/1250 sec, ISO 5000 (rain/snow mix) , no crop
Eagle take off in rain: 600 mm, f/5.6, 1/320, ISO 5000 (it was dark and very rainy), no crop
Eagle take off from river: 600 mm, F/5.6, 1/5000, ISO 640, no crop
Gadwall in flight: 300 f/2.8 + 1.4X, f/4.0, 1/4000, ISO 800, no crop

Mallard take off
300 mm f/2.8 + 1.4X, f/7.1, 1/2500, ISO 3200, no crop.  All seven photos in this sequence were sharp.  The 1DX captured focus quickly and stayed locked on even though the duck was close and moving quickly. It was difficult to keep the duck framed properly, especially being seated in a small boat.

Bufflehead in flight
300 f/2.8 + 1.4X, f/4.5, 1/2500, ISO 3200.  Buffleheads are really fast flyers, but the 1DX is able to focus quickly and stay locked on, as long as I keep the bird in the frame.

What a beautiful picture! Well done!

And I feel guilty picking just one out for praise but Gary, your pictures of eagles are stunning too. I especially like that last one (and thanks for posting the AF case you used).

This thread is definitely not good for my wallet as it definitely makes one yearn for some super teles! ;-)

Not to be redundant but these images are great! I suspect that the camera may have helped but it was the person behind the lens that made it work!!! :)

I have a quick question for all you 1Dx users. I just got my CPS rental and fallen in love with it, after the two weeks I plan on buying one. Do you use L-plates with yours or not?

Yes, though not always. And the new modular style RRS L-Plate is, to me, well worth the money. It might cost a bit more but in the context of the camera is not that much, however I buy L-Plates and regular body plates for my most used bodies and the new design covers both so actually saves me money.

+1, love the RRS modular L-plate for the 1D X, especially since the Allen key stores in the plate.

1Dx
600mm f/7.1 1/2000 iso 800
case 1 I have tried most of the case settings haven't had any that gave me a bad time I use mostly 1&6
I kid you not living in Utah you need all the glass you can get the 600mm is the best thing I have done but I had to get a big ass tripod & Wimberley II head but now that the pain is gone I smile every time I go shoot  ;D

Very nice.. Been considering a longer tele for a bit now. I live in Nevada and after seeing all your stuff I reaaaaly want to start shooting wildlife!
