« on: August 04, 2012, 05:58:40 PM »
Thanks to everyone who posted about upgrading to a 1DS 3 from my 5D2, I had to exchange it as I had a shutter button Problem, Now I have a brand new 5D3 and I have to say, its a bloody fine camera, literally everything you will ever need, I will miss the 1D body, but that's for another time, thanks again, I can now enjoy all the 5D3 posts,

here is a pic from today's street photography class for you, my first picture with the camera,

thanks all x

Glad you like it.  I do like the 1Ds3, but I like the 5D Mark III better.  I think technology has advanced enough that the images overall actually render a tad better.  I did some side-by-side comparisons and overall the 5D3 is best.  But I do love the 1Ds3 from ISO 100-400.  However, I love the auto ISO in manual mode, the multi-exposure, HDR, and high ISO capabilities of the 5D3.  The colors are very, very nice too.

Thats good to hear. I snagged my 5D3 for 3,099 On evil bay. I just couldn't see the worth in it for the full retail price but just waited patiently until I saw the deal of the century. Buy it Now. 8)

It really is a fine camera.

Thanks guys, I quick question, I have a 60/mbs CF and a 45/mbs card in the camera, do you know what speed cards I should have in it, at the moment, I'm still getting a 10 second buffer, I don't think its that bad, will I dramatically increase the buffer amount with other cards? thanks

Try removing the sd card and see if the buffer goes away. I read a while back that the the sd slot slowed down camera write speed because the camera would sometimes default to the sd instead of the cf for some odd reason.

If you are shooting on Card 1 and take it out of the camera, let's say to put it in a card reader, and then put it back in the camera, because you took it out, it will then default to card 2 when you put it back in and start shooting.

The consensus on this question, as near as I can remember, is to go with as fast a CF card as you can afford, but any SD that will write > 45mb/sec should be fine, since the 5D3 can't read an SD any faster than that. For shooting fast bursts, remember that "recording separately" to both cards [or recording at all to the glacial SD] will slow you down significantly.

For faster FPS, I only use a CF card as the SD card seems to slow things own.

Normally though, I have RAW saved on the CF card and Jpgs on he SD card - works fine.

Have fun with the 5d III - I love mine (esp with the 70-200 2.8 IS II)  :)

I love my 5D3 too!
I'ts an amazing camera in so many ways.

I use the Lexar 1000X CF card, and it works REALLY well in it.
Far better than any other card I've tried.
I have the camera set to only use the CF card, but if that gets filled up, THEN to move to the SD card, which is also a Lexar 600X (the fastest there is).
Have never actually used the SD.

I download the contents of the CF card with a Lexar USB3 reader, and it transfers even 5-600 photos very quickly indeed.
With a normal reader and USB 2, I used to start the download, then go and make a cup of coffee.

The 5D Mark III is very good, but cant reach the pictures quality from the 1Ds Mark III in the range ISO 100 to 400.

No thats ok guys, I was just wondering what the best write speed cards to use for this 5D3?

I use the Sandisk Extreme Pro cards.  I almost filled up the 64 GB card I was using (LRaw + JPEG), but it seemed to write pretty quick (90MB/sec).
