From Engadget
The 1D Mark IV has become the camera of the year at Engadget! Thousands and thousands of people that have never used any of the cameras on the list have made it so. :)
Congrats Canon!

NO QUESTION ABOUT IT! CANON MAKES THE BEST CAMERAS IN THE WORLD!
i’d rather be in the “editor’s choice” catagory than the “reader’s choice” one because many of the readers have a difficult time being objective (see above comment)
Ok … WHAT about tomorrow ??? Still no solid info ? No other CR2 at list ?
Still waiting for sothing more than Endgadget stuff ;)
Me to, come on there must be something u can tell us?????
Koogle, be a good boy, canonGuy is working harder than you do for everybody …
But please, give us some news :D
Did anyone else see the Sony EVIL prototypes on DPreveiew? And today Sigma just announce that they too will be launching a mirrorless compact interchangeable lens system.
It seems half the industry is jumping on this train. I’m hoping Canon will do the same. Or even Pentax for that matter, as I have a lot invested in Pentax film era gear.
Sorry, that was off topic. Yay, Canon.
If someone purchases a $5000 camera based off of popular opinion at Endgadget they deserve what they get.

If anyone purchases any camera from a review off Engadget …
camera of the year…I think not!! More like failure of the year for canon with the 1.3x sensor and terrible low light performance relatively speaking.
Nikon D3s is as good, my friends
“Thousands and thousands of people that have never used any of the cameras on the list have made it so.”
LOL
The only thing better with the D3s is ISO above 25600. FF or APS-H is a matter of taste. I’ve sure seen a lot of Mk4’s with long lenses at the Olympics. That is the kind of photographers that the camera is built for! The Mk4 is both faster and produces more detailed images than the D3s.
Before you say it loud with caps… Did you ever use a 1D series or a D3 Series? Or just own a Rebel with kit lens?
Whatever. After seeing Avatar, I think it’s time to move to shoot 3D pictures and videos. Canon, don’t fall behind Sony!
I have used multiple Nikon D3 series and multiple Canon 1D series. I currently own a canon 1Ds, 30D, and 5D. Have you ever used them? A truly pathetic question Mr. L!
I think you should stick with the “moron’s choice,” Nikon lovers are always hanging out in Canon forums waiting to see what the true Market leader is going to do next.
I suggest reading again.
the 1dmk4 won the fanboy-influenced readers category.
The PANASONIC GF1 won editors choice for camera of the year.
I suppose somewhere on a leica forum you would find that leica users would vote their camera as winner. etc for nikon, sony, etc etc.
so you’re saying engadget is a canon forum?
It is called “reader’s choice” for a reason: All they do is read the press releases, and maybe maybe the specifications. Otherwise it would be called the “user’s choice”.
If anyone purchases anything based on ….
Did I say better? I said as good…
By the way, I’m a Canon guy, but I don’t go for this “brand loyalty” nonsense. Sure, I happen to like Canon’s system, but I won’t defend it to the death.
To say the EOS-1D Mark IV is the “best” is silly. It isn’t the best. Neither is the Nikon D3s. They are both excellent cameras, meant for similar audiences. The choice is mostly preferential, unless you’re an indie filmmaker (plus for Canon), or need very high ISO capabilities (plus for Nikon).
Waiting… I’m thinking… nothing?
RG posts bad news about Canon: Canon idiots attack RG, Nikon idiots feel smug.
Endgadget posts good news about Canon: Canon idiots preen, Nikon idiots troll Canon boards.
Bottom line? All of you idiots are as bad as each other. We should put you all on rafts and send you out to sea.
lol. Owned.
If you can win awards for just announcing a camera, Red should win every year. If you have to actually deliver, then awards need to wait until they are delivered and in use in reasonable quantities. I’ve nothing against the MK IV, it is a fantastic camera, but how can a paper camera win a award??
Agree.
“lol, owned”??
Are you retarded? lol
Canon Rules is obviously like 13 years old. “HOLY SHEET!!111 PEOPLE THAT HAVE NEVER USED A 1D MkIV SAID ITS THE BEST CAMERA IN THE WORLDZZ”
Yeah.. Awesome *Hai 5* Great success.
I was the first person to get the MkIV from my local Camera store, I just don’t have the Canon logo branded into my ass like some of the gooks on here.
And the MkIV still doesn’t track as good as the D3, “Thanks Canon” *Thumbs up* Atleast this Camera that costs thousands of dollars actually works properly now, unlike the last abomination.
So while I own a MkIV I am happy to sit here knowing that it works, even if it isn’t the best Camera on the market right now. While the guys with the 400D and the kit lens tells everyone it’s the best Camera EVARR because people who have never used it voted for it on a website LOL.
F*ck people are stupid. Seriously.
LOL OWNED ME!
IM SO GHEY!
Spoiler!
Is there an announcement tomorrow? I need to know whether or not to go to school!
By “Spoiler!” I meant the poster known as Spoiler…
as Cap’n Jack Sparrow says, “the deepest circle of hell is reserved for fanboys and pixelpeepers”
I’m amazed at the lack of any rumors/leaks at this point, if indeed there will be any announcement tomorrow.
i told you, no 1Ds this early, 60D (FF) on March 10 (announcement date) May 10, 2010 release date (aniv of XXD series). 5D MK III along with 2000D on late 2nd Quarter and 1Ds MK IV on late 3rd Quarter. and to those who watch the Olympics, you can’t see a 1Ds Body because it was not tested there, 60D were tested instead of 1Ds.
since when did you use ISO more than 6400? in lower ISO (100-3200) 1D MK IV beats D3s, shoot with it side by side in the dark to compare. 1D also focuses much faster than D3s. I know because I have both. (rented the D3s just to compare and see if the rumors were true)
+1, i also own Canon system. (i own D70 before, renting Nikon system to compare with Canon). im not defending it to death, im just correcting the wrong comments here, specially comments from fanboys with no hands on experience of both cameras.
The most intelligent thing in this thread.
Canon should rush to announce some vapourware too?
What about LOW LIGHT PERFORMANCE??
lol, abit over the top there dont you thing engadget?
I’d give it to a Nikon, sorry guys
Because it’s not vaporware anymore and is currently being used by a lot of pros now. Vaporware is all the Sony DSLRs paper-launched at the PMA show.
1D Mark IV is big sh*it… D3s is better! Waiting for D4… my lovers.
if someone ever read a Engadget review …
This website also picked the 5D II over the D700 because “it has video.”
bull, having good ISO 25600 means by extension that ISO 12800, 6400, and 3200 must be better than a camera that can only push ISO 6400. This means that above a certain point, 3200 as promised by others, while the 1D4 can take acceptable photos, the D3s’ lower SNR means that picture quality is higher on the D3s.
if all of you just picked up your cameras and took pictures this forum would not exist. enjoy the beauty of photography that is why we picked up a camera in the first place. My favorite camera is the little light box my uncle bought me in 1984, i thought it was made of gold. when i pick up my camera now thats what i think of.
It feels that Canon never go past Nikon now days, with 5D Mark II ,7D and 1D Mark IV.
Nikon have much better pic’s directly from their cameras.
I use a 5D MK II and are happy about it,BUT.
When i compare photos with my nikon friends,i sometime, not all the time, get the feeling that my photos need some work in photoshop or something and (almost)never in the other way.
I always shoot raw and like to play with photoshop but i dont feel that i have any choice.
Nikon,(And Pentax,Sony) have D-lightning that work,Canon’s Auto Lighting Optimiser dont.
And Nikon also have effective in-camera reduction of fringing on JPEGs.
It’s a useful feature found on Nikon DSLRs and one which Canon still doesn’t implement in-camera,WHY?
I have too many Canon lenses to change, but if i should make a choice today….than Nikon have been number one.
On all Canon forums the Canon owners talk about how much better Canon are,but thats not the biggest issue on Nikon forums.
Them now have the feeling of number one,and i dont see anything from Canon that shall help them get that place again .
If 5D mark II 2008 have get the AF that 7D than get,and have get 5 frames/sek than Canon have get it right.
But now them seems to be a bit late with everything.
Canon cant save the situation and come with a 5D Mark III that only have those improvements.
And them know that(i hope).
And why keep trying with the pixel race?
Slow down Canon, and make cameras that people feel is ready.
7D was almost in my hand, but i dont like the big difference in photo quality compare to my 5D Mark II.(That’s good and bad)
Thanks to do this post. It it very beneficial to me.
Ok, I shoot cars, cars move. I’ve owned a bunch of canons. From 10d’s when they first came out, 20d, 1n’s, 1ds mark 2, tested the 5d and 7d, and now own a 1d mark4. I bought it for it’s “amazing” focus abilities. Ok, lets cut to the chase, shooting a car as it drives by on tripod at 1/125 a second…. the images are still soft. The color dark blue, it won’t focus on, the chrome badges, it won’t even hold detail. I am shooting with the 24-70, and 70-200, I can’t use the 16-35 because the distortion is so bad it makes the images un-usable. And when I say distortion, not just the aspherical distortion but the actual quality of the image is well.. horrid, it becomes thin and torn and stretched no matter what f stop you’re at. The 24-70, well…. another great attempt if you just take pictures in your garden. I have taken the lens to canon so many times they should give me a new one. I spoke with 2 other professional shooters and they have experienced the same “overall” softness to the lens. And thinking the 1d mark 4 was going to clear that up… well, the image quality is no better than my 1ds mark 2, and at 200 asa the highlights started exploding, geeezzz, at least I have a screen large enough to see what I’m shooting now. Do I really need to switch to Nikon for a system that I can rely on??? So for all you guys that keep reading the specs, it doesn’t matter, get off the sofa and go shoot something, and then maybe Canon will listen to us.
