5D Mark II – $2499 @ Best Buy

= $60 sale when I add tax. Something.

Plus $231.16 sales tax here in California alone!!!!

Earlier this week, I got it for $45 less than Adorama, B&H, J&R, and Amazon ($2700). Total with sales tax was $2655. Here’s how:

Go to any US post office and pick up a mover’s kit for changing your address. Make sure it’s the most recent one (5/1/09 to 9/30/09). Find the Best Buy coupon for 10% off any regular-priced item. It works for any camera over $249, except Sony DSLRs.

I paid: $2699.99 – 10% + 9.25% tax = $2429.99 – $270 + $224.77 = $2654.76.

That’s $45 less than Adorama, B&H, J&R, & Amazon, AND you can pick it up right away, instead of WAITING a week or longer to get it shipped to you.

Of course if you don’t mind doing Live Cashback, you can save another $35 or more, but with J&R, it “usually ships in 7 – 14 business days”. Do you really want to wait 1 to 3 weeks for it to get shipped to you?

Also, since it’s a higher-end camera, not all Best Buy stores carry it. I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area and only the San Carlos (peninsula) and Union City (east bay) stores had it in stock. You can check availability at stores by clicking on the Store Pickup link.

Exactly! If you get the Best Buy credit card (which I did), then any purchase of $499 and up qualifies for 0% interest financing for 18 months. The monthly minimum payment is 1% (around $27), or if you want to spread it out over 18 months, it works out to only ~$148/month.

As an option, you can also get Best Buy’s 4-year extended warranty ($380, ouch!) which covers ALL damages, so even if ‘accidentally’ drop it in water or ‘accidentally’ smash it on the ground, you’ll get a store credit for up to the amount of the same camera or newer model (can you say 5D Mark III?!?). Even though most ‘experts’ recommend against getting extended warranties, it’s a great deal because in 4 years, the camera won’t even be worth half of what you paid for it. So, sometime before the 4 years is up, maybe you’ll have an ‘accident’ with your 5D Mark II and need to get it replaced. :-)

$2499 is a great deal at Amazon, especially with free shipping and no sales tax.

Plus, if you get the Amazon.com Store (Credit) Card, you can have 6 months to pay for it with 0% interest.

But, currently it’s NOT in stock at Amazon. It says, “Usually ships within 2 to 5 weeks.” However, it could take even longer than 5 weeks.

For me personally, I’d rather pay $155 more and get the camera immediately from Best Buy and have 18 months to pay off the camera with 0% interest.

It is selling < 19500 HKD everywhere in HK no Tax :)

amazon has it for 2700 again as well. I will have enough for it by the end of the summer, but is the price expected to go down bacause of the recession? i dont know a thing about US economy right now…
