It looks like allocations have been set for the 5D Mark II for at least a few retailers. Expect shipments to begin next week.
I'm told most mom & pop stores should get the allocation they asked for.

Is this only for Canada? – How about Europe. Here the date varies from 20th to 28th November – So what is correct?
Looks like the thanksgiving date is looking pretty accurate.

Here in Denmark a Canon rep. says that Canon can only deliver 150 5D mrk II around the first week of December.
And alone here in Denmark Canon have received a pre-order of 8000 5d mark II.
That’s a lot of cameras for the danish market, so if you order a 5D mark II today, you will have to wait until 2’quater 2009 before you can enjoy you new camera….. :-((
Is there any information on when a second shipment from Canon will be released?

Watch, I bet you this whole thing is going to be a flop! (beside the pros like me) Most of the people that “pre-ordered” are NOT going to be able to afford it or their wives are going to say “you have to return it honey!” Everyone will have been wrong all along, and there’s going to be a whole mess of “open box” 5D MK II’s floating around which will make the prices drop and everyone will be happy (or disappointed).
Its a great camera, and I plan on putting it to good use as I shoot photo’s and film (go to http://www.mediastorm.org to see). But its not worth all this.

Never mind I just rechecked it. It looks as if it is a collaborative site. It is a very interesting site none the less.
Just spoke to my (small) retailer north of Montreal and they have been told Dec 5-10. At the same time they set expectations that it will be shipped in very small quantities. Being no.4 on their list I can only hope!
According to Henry’s: When I asked about having to put cash up for a pre-order I was told if it was in the store yes as they only hold these fpr a short time. Online orders would be honored as they came in. They do a pre-authorization without charging your card when the order comes in. NO money need be exchanged. I point blank asked the guy if I was to pre-order online Sept 22 and someone came in this week with a hundred bucks if he would jump ahead of me and was told NO.
Here’s hoping this thing is released soon

Just got off the phone with Broadway Camera Vancouver…. not the NYC scam site.
They had a per order promo for the 5D II on their front page and they just removed the promo. When i called to ask why, they told me they have a solid date on Dec 5th.
To bad it is not sooner but at least it is a firm date.

I called a local retailer in San Diego the day the news came out about the 5DMII & was 6th on the list. I talked with them yesterday & was told that they expecting one, when it is released. Yep one.
I’m wondering if an entire group of lenses are in the remaking batch, like the 24-70 f2.8.
I was just told my 5D2 order with J&R is no longer listed as a back order. So the 5D2s are in their system and they are just waiting for the shipment to arrive.
No exact date given though, just “soon.”
I have been given a date ! – The 29th November – Jut got a confirm mail with the delivery date – Only got a Coming Soon a week ago.. :)

With all these new reports coming in I thought I’d call into my sales rep (at Blacks Photography head office) and see what was up with my order and this is what he said:
“Canon has told us that we won’t be seeing the 5D Mark II until the end of December, or early January.”

Spoke to kerrisdale camera in vancouver today nov 19. They said they will have an unknown number delivered on dec 5
Yeah I don’t know my date, I was just happy when the guy said it was no longer considered a back order.

For Montreal the guy at Lozeau Store told me today that the 5th of december could be THE DAY, but he wasn’t sure. I understand that it was an expectation…
So lucky everyone seems to get on Dec 5th…ppl from Black in a way might not have this date…>_<
Aden Camera told me this morning that they’ll be receiving the 5D Mark II shipment first week of December. They’re pretty positive that all pre-orders to-date will be fulfilled. I guess we just have to wait and see.
canon is shooting themselves in the foot with the competitor’s price (d700) down at henry’s to $2970. so either canon is really arrogant or really stupid, but my guess is, it will backfire.
i’m not getting 5d2 until the prices are down again.
Just checked my order at Vistek changed from backorder to Dec 4th 2008
I also checked with Vistek about dates here in Calgary and I also got the same date Dec 4th. But they did warn me that it could be up to mid Dec before the camera arrives.
Hello All,
I just received confirmation from my local retailer here in Central California that they are going to try to ship the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, but if not they will ship the week after. He spoke to his Canon rep a few days ago. I’m confident we are going to be getting our cameras by the end of week 1 in Dec. I’m #2 on the waiting list…. :)
Quick question…I’m looking at fisheye lenses. What do you guys recommend to go with the 5D mark II and why?

Hey Guys….I got mine on Wednesday @ 3:30pm. I am truly amazed at how well the camera takes pictures at such high ISOs. I haven’t messed with the video yet…I’m sure it will be sweet.
A tip: If you are looking for a camera try calling remote, small Mom and Pop Camera dealers. I did this and pre-ordered two months ago and was 2nd on the list. Those that put cash down went up the list. Usually the lists are very short. It might be worth a try calling.
