First Unboxing
This is the first unboxed pic we've received of the 7D. This camera is from Henry's in downtown Toronto.

Thanks Arsen

I won't be posting any more of these.

Don't forget the Canon announcement on the 29th. It doesn't look to be EOS related, but Canon seems to think it's important nonetheless.

Blurrycam!
I've only received sightings from one person in Toronto. Anyone else seen the 7D out and about?

I'll have one in my hands Tuesday or Wednesday.

thanks Andrew

  • Bought one at Aden earlier today been using it all day, I did not pre-order just walked in…Downtown location

  • I was at Catalina island today with canon and they told me they ship the 7d on Friday.
Every store in california should recieve them on Monday or teusday.

    Mine with be on Monday.

  • I called Henry’s today and was told that the truck from Toronto would find its way to Kingston by Monday. Oy vey.

  • Was in a photography salon Friday evening in Quebec city and it was there at the Canon kiosk to be tried. BTW, we did it… nice! There were also selling it right there right now if you wanted, at the discounted price of 2000$CA (reg 2100$). The rep told me that the shops around town should be getting it next week or so.

  • Picked up my 7D yesterday afternoon From Henrys Kennedy commons.. First impressons.. wow autofocus is amazing.. took a while to figure out how to change the focus zones and activate in the menue for advanced cross focus points.. The button layout is so much better than previous 20d,40d,50D and even 5D MKII.. camera feels like a pro body, solid and shutter sound is nice.. Took some ISO 6400 and so far quite impressing

  • PEbaumont: can you please POST A LINK to the Kiosk where you were trying the camera, and they were selling it for $2000? Even if the actual price isn’t online.

IF ANYONE can find this camera anywhere for les than $2099 that would be a HUGE help, because Henry’s has promised to match the lowest Canadian retail price. I get my camera tomorrow, and want to go in armed with lots of links to $2000 cameras, so that I don’t have to pay $2099!!!!!!!

  • stopped into McBain yesterday (Edmonton) and they said still nearly a month away before arrival, they ordered just over 100 and had over 30 on preorder..

i have seen preoders to include bonus of a good cf card. that brings the price down somewhat from the 2099

  • holy donkey balls on a stick. those high iso shots are practically noise-free! especially the 1600 and 3200, but definitely the 1600. it’s as clean as ISO 800 on a D90 (i have one and have tested it).

  • Here are some ISO Sample Shots took about 10 mintues ago.. Sorry I am not a professional Photographer, still fairly new.. After using the camera for about couple of hours. Love the new autofocus, new buttons and able to program to your liking. The new LCD screen is also much better than the 50D & 40D.. You can download original files as you wish.. ISO ranges are from 100-6400. Will have to use Raw in next samples in the next couple of days and do some Postprocessing.

  • They look pretty good, even at iso 6400 any NR software will get rid of that.Im getting a little more convinced

  • in the picture on the manual showing the 7D from the top, the lens rudely looks long and stiff.

  • it comes with a 18-135mm or a 28-135mm lens???? in amzon adorama and best buy says 28-135??

  • I want to buy this camera but want to invest in buying an extra coverage/warranty. I’ve been looking at B&H Photo and Best Buy because these 2 offer accidental breakage. Does anyone know any other US online camera stores that offer this extra coverage/ warranty?

  • For any interested Aussies out there, Discount Digital Photographics sent me an email at around midnight last night saying the first batch of 7Ds are coming in on Wednesday but I got another email not too long ago saying its been sold out and the next batch is coming on Friday. Too bad I’ve already decided on not getting it (at least, for now). Its so tempting though…

  • Don’t forget the Canon announcement on the 29th. It doesn’t look to be EOS related, but Canon seems to think it’s important nonetheless.

My source deep inside of the CanonCave say that its a 64″ Plotter with 16 color inks, built in 9600 DPI scanner, built in 39mp camera with ISO range 25-25600, better noise performance than the Nikon D3, FF sensor with ability to crop down to EFS so you can use all lenses, and built in diagnostic ultrasound (i guess thats the convergence between the medical community and the photography). It records 1080p video at selectable frame rates (watch out VariCam!!) and it weighs in at 195 pounds thanks to some new tech with lighter smaller parts. I cant wait to wheel one of these puppies into the next wedding I shoot, with the direct print features I can take the shot and deliver the prints at the same time! And then later when the bride is drunk I can get her to sit on the scanner! Talk about memories EVERYONE can enjoy! With the Ultrasound I can perform a Sonogram and show all of the guests the REAL reason they rushed the marriage. MOZELTOFF!! ITS A BOY!!!

  • Got mine today in Sydney (via a parallel importer) it feels good in the hand.

None of the stores selling Australian Canon products have them in stock yet and won’t for at least another week so I am told.

Can’t wait to use it in South Africa next week.

  • Check the specs and US$ prices at the Canon USA website

    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=149

First, the 18-135 IS is an EF-S lens, and costs less than the 28-135 IS USM, which is an EF lens. Also, the 28-135 has USM; the 18-135 does not. The 18-135 weighs 455g with 67mm filter size , while the 28-135 weighs 540g and has 72mm filter size.

So, the 28-135 an EF lens, is bigger, heavier, and costs more than the 18-135 EF-S lens.

The evidence seems to favor the 28-135 as being “better”.

  • I was just thinking…could Canon’s “something big” news be a medium format system or camera?

Some of the other medium format companies have just released some new hardware of their own.

    Just a thought…

  • It probably won’t happen but i’m hoping for a refresh of standard primes, especially, 35 f2 & 50 1.4

  • The only thing you missed is that the EF lens is 11 years old… Granted, it may be superior to the 18-135 in terms of build, AF motor, etc. but to judge the optics purely by the other specs is pushing it.

  • I have a 7D body on pre-order at my local camera store. They got some 7D kits in today but he thinks they wont be getting the body only until October 26th!!! Is Canon just trying to tease us with these crappy kits while they get ready for the real shipment at the end of October or is this guy full of it???

I CAN’T WAIT THAT LONG! I’M GOING TO POOP MY PANTS!

  • I pre-ordered a body from Mcbain in Lethbridge. they got some kits in today, but the guy thinks they wont get the body in until the 26th of october!!! THAT BETTER NOT BE TRUE!

  • Just checked with a Best Buy corporate contact, the stores have them on order, they don’t have any in the wearhouse yet and unless they are being drop shipped to stores they won’t have them until next week.

  • the 28-128 is a GREAT lens for a beginner. it has a solid build.. the 18-135 is made of plastic i think. no good.

  • I was talking to The Camera Store in Calgary today. I’ve had a 7D and the 15-85 on order for a while. They told me today that their shipment of 7Ds and lenses was headed to Calgary as of earlier this morning.

Should be in Calgary late this week or early next week.

    Will keep you posted.

  • end of october is also what i was told when inquiring. quess the kits are for those who just can’t wait, i have too many “L” lens to blow more money on a kit lens.

  • that is so lame. Seriously, how many people are going to buy a professional grade camera with a crappy $200 dollar kit lens? I mean, I can understand the 15-85, but this other kit is just so junky!

  • Gee you’re quick to write it off aren’t you, and without knowing anything about its performance. Nor, apparently, about its price either, if you think it’s $200…

  • well I’m mostly just venting because I have to wait another month, according to the camera store guy. But to be fair, the cheaper kit lenses dont have fancy UD glass elements for reducing chromatic aberations, as well as other things like USM AF drive etc. This is what I base my assumption on when I say it is junky. It may well be a perfectly decent lens for some people.

  • While it’s true that this one doesn’t have USM, it does have a single aspherical+UD element, and it costs as much as the 17-85.
