Bang On

Canon Rumors

Right again
We nailed the specs on the T1i pretty good. We had no idea about the 20fps 1080p. I really have no idea what that’s about.

We also nailed the replacement of the 220EX that would have the ability to tilt. It’s about time!

Lenses are still proving to be difficult to get good sources on, but we’ll keep at it.

Thanks for reading!

Both will be hot sellers

  • I just really don’t know what to say… I wish my 50D could record video. I think thats pretty lousy to screw the 50D owners. I for one just purchased my 50D less than a month ago. Now this? I still like my 50D overall better, but to keep video capture out of the 50D, thats just… not nice. 60D will be coming down the path I take it? Great…. Probably 6.4FPS, 19.2 Megapixels, 1080P video record @24fps.

  • What lousy, predictable, boring specs. Yiikes… Wisht the T1i proves to be Canon’s downfall.

  • “Bang on?”

Gimme a break. Where’s the articulating screen you spoke of? Where’s the jog dial you spoke of? Where is this bounce flash you spoke of? Not even close.

Anyone could have predicted the rest. HD video, etc, etc.

  • if canon delivers 20fps I will make all in my power to dissuade people to buy this cr##. Panasonic GH1 will be my video setup.

Canon you really Effed up this time!

  • Your crying over video capabilities on a lower end camera, gimme a break. If you want to video-graph get the real thing.

  • Haven’t you heard? 20p is the new 24p!!!

Guess I’ll have to sell some EF lenses soon. Hopefully the GH1 will be available soon.

  • I love the fact that even the SX1 has 1080/30p.

It’ll be interesting to see if Oly’s new camera(s) will be on par with the GH1 in terms of video.

  • Haha, I would expect one to switch brands over a serious camera, not over a poor toy Rebel, LOL.
What equipment are you selling btw, 18-55 and 75-300 kit lens? ;)

  • It’s not that the Rebel was announced, it was that, once again, Canon was not able to provide the serious photographers with any useful stuff, and at the same time, screw many 50D-users.. This is,in my eyes, a clear sign of Canons preferences in their market – Feed the entries, and let the serious hobbyphotographers and the pros suffer, as they are bound to the company in their possesion of expensive lenses and stuff..

  • A lot of ” serious hobbyphotographers ” like myself, will buy this as a second, travel camera. It is certainly anything but a “toy”

  • As the creator of Earth, I have detailed files on everyone.

You, sir, are not a working “professional”, you are a working gearhead who is stuck in the cubicle office building. You have high expectations and feels heartbroken when Canon comes out with more “beginner” stuff.

Switching brands will not make you a better photographer. Wedding photographers can use this new T1i and make thousands of dollars because it was used properly.

Could you do that? I doubt it.

  • Agreed! When I saw the headline of this post this morning I really thought Canon had shown courage enough to add a jog dial and articulating screen. But no, the only specs you got right weren’t all that hard to guess. Which is fine by me, but not with this boasting post.

  • How does it “screw over” 50D users? By offering some capabilities that the 50D doesn’t? Canon has done that all along — they put eye control focus on the Elan and A2E before announcing the 3 and never put it in the 1-series. The 1-series was the last to get E-TTL flash. In digital, they boosted the pixel count on the Rebel before the 40D.

1080P at 20 FPS sounds somewhat weird to me. I’ll stick with my SX1 for that. Having a good zoom range, stereo sound, and all that is more useful for video, anyway.

  • Agreed.

I find it hilarious that people would switch brands over an entry level camera entry that is pretty well spec’ed for an entry level camera.

BTW Mathias how would this possibly made the serious hobby photographer and pro suffer?

  • This sounds fantastic. I´m currently backpcking around South America with a 5D, 17-40L, 24-105L, 100-400L.

I´d switch that 5D with this camera + flash combo in a second if I could get it´s portability, weight, and HD movie mode.

  • We posted the Rebel’s spec list in December from a good source. The rest of the stuff was for discussion purposes, we never put high ratings on the articulating screen or jog wheel. If you read the posts we questioned the possibility!

The top camera bounce flash we said probably came from a Nikon D5000 rumor.

Our PMA post had both the 500D and 270EX in it, we were just wrong on the announcement date.

    Thanks for reading!

  • I’ve almost killed the rating system. I’m not sure what to do about it. I’m still getting new and helpful sources.

It’s tough to rate stuff from new sources. I have to wait and see if they come through.

    Should it stay or go?

  • I’m sorry I didn’t mean that. I’m just a jerk. A real big jerk. I was taking out the frustration of having bought one my self yesterday on you.

  • No need to ask questions because I can see his or her future and what he or she is planning to say.

He or she doesn’t know exactly the answer to that except running away and hide his or her shame, embarrassment, and guiltiness.

Cubicle workers spent 96% of the time on the internet forums to argue, start a flame war, and brand-bashing each other. Our economy is falling because gearheads aren’t doing their jobs (that is one another particular reason why economy is falling apart).

For example, I am a Canon 5D Mark II user and when Nikon comes out with new D700 replacement, everybody leaves me in the cold darkness just to pick it up so they can brag up a storm on the forums about owning the latest, newest, and greatest camera. Once Canon comes out with EOS 6D, people switches back and gets on my side to brag on the forums again.

I have to formally announce that switching brands – to own the latest, newest, and greatest camera – is a sin.

I, God, am getting tired of hearing “O, Lord, please help us, please give us your blessing” when gearheads’ wives and husbands file a divorce or kids attempting suicide over this.

  • “Cubicle workers spent 96% of the time on the internet forums to argue”

So I guess that means that God is a cubicle worker.

  • I find it strange Panny hasn’t released an official price point for their cam. I think its going to be higher that we are all predicting.

  • 20 fps.
    Gimme a break.
    How totally useless.

    Canon continues their feature crippling.

It’s still an interesting body, but it is a shame it doesn’t do 25 fps and have a jog wheel.
That would make a killer little camera.

    So close, so close.

  • I am not an expert, or even an experienced amateur. I just want to be able to point, shoot, and take decent pics and some occassional vidoe.

  • Great article. There’s a lot of good data here, though I did want to let you know something – I am running Redhat with the current beta of Firefox, and the look and feel of your blog is kind of flaky for me. I can read the articles, but the navigation doesn’t work so great.
