New lenses in the wild
I’m told that a certain TV station will be using the 14-24 f/2.8L, 24-70 f/2.8L IS & 70-200 f/2.8L IS II for upcoming productions.
The lenses are planned for a 2010 release.
CR’s Take
There is going to be a lot of rumors piling up in regards to lenses over the next little while. Pay close attention to the CR ratings. Hopefully we get some CR2+ stuff soon.

YAY!!! Bring em on.
It would have been nice to have a release of any / all of these before the holidays… I’ve been a real good boy this year.
a 14-24 from canon would be a huge and welcome surprise.
Well, IF this is true it will be a banner year for Canon. Especially if they release the 1Ds Mark IV as you have heard in the first quarter 2010 and those three lenses, Wow. Bad for the checkbook but look out for new gear and business to pay for them!
If you recall in 2007 Nikon released the D3, 14-24 and 24-70 (plus the big teles). Canon might be about to take back market share. A new 1D Mark IV (late 2009 of course), new 1Ds Mark IV and those threes lenses, GREAT way to start off the new year.

Not to my wallet it wouldn’t!
Any news about a 24-105 f/4 L IS II? I ready something long time ago…
The 24- 105 is a great lens apart from its close focusing ability, which is crap. If it only had the closeup focusing distance of the 17-40 it would be brilliant.
… only if it’s comparable to the Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 that so many cream their pants over.
? The MM on those two is nearly identical
naa i wanna the wanted 100-400 f3.2 IS II :D
Just a revamped 100-400mm with bether sealing because of the dust pump, an updated IS would be enough.
ya right with tropicalization too xD i would love
Are you kidding me? These cost $5k a piece. You couldn’t afford it unless you’re planning on skipping your next mortgage downpayment or forgoing food for a couple of months.
HEY the google wave ad at the bottom of the browser window is a bit screwy when it loads in firefox. I can send a screen shot if that will help.
Sorry for the interruption in the discussion, back on topic
I hope that the new 24-70 is doesn’t cost $5K otherwise me and the old 28-70 are going to be together for a long time.
it’s terrible for me (on IE8)… every window jump to the end of the page because there’s a “sign in” window that get’s focus…
id like to see an updated 100-400 as well! its about time!
I get the same thing happening with Firefox and Safari. Annoying as hell!
+1 And lose the push-pull design.
…and a 300 f4LIS mkII with the latest IS already!
I’m glad to know it’s not just me. I e-mailed the CR guy a couple of hours ago about that. It’s an ad for Google Wave. Makes me want to use Google even less.
Where do you get the “$5K a piece” figure? It should be in the $5K ballpark for all three.
These would be the new “holy trinity” for Canon zoom lenses.
And, yes, I’d forage for food for a couple of months to have them. :-P
I use mine with a 12mm macro ring & have a lot of fun with it.
I added this:
google.com##DIV.loginBox
… to my element blocking list (Adblock Plus with the Easy Element Hider add-in) and it tamed the Google Wave login problem entirely.
Would appreciate any news about the 1d Mark IV that should be coming out … Any day now?
So far it seems like the northlight is atleast digging for info
the 14-24 supposed to be an Utra Wide angle Lens?
Oh, I just made that figure up. Nobody was listening to me so I needed to say something stupid. Now that I have your attention, will you give me a lens for my Christmas present?
If Canon wants to stem the loss of market shares, they better do something quick.
On full frame, yes.
Opera too.
Add wave.google.com and wave-api.appspot.com to your block list.
How many shares have they lost so far?
would the lenses have problems etc etc misc just like the 7D image quality? =[ i m just afraid that they kept on coming out new products for the purpose of marketing but not the purpose of quality. like before =[
I suspect the CIPA CP+ held next March in Japan will bring out a bunch of new product announcements.

I fixed f4.5 would be sweet addition to the 100-400 too
?
From what I’ve seen, the 7D outresolves the photographer :-)
17-40 f/4 IS II ?????
All I have to say is “Yes please, bring it on.”
Would kill for a sharp 14-24. I just bought the 17 TS to use as a regular lens and it is insanely sharp but too difficult to work with. Need a real wide that is sharp. A new 25-70 would be great as well although much more interested in the rumored 24-50mm f2. Who cares what it costs, if it’s sharp, bring it on
