Tomorrow (July 17, 2024) is the day we finally see the Canon EOS R1 and Canon EOS R5 Mark II in all their glory. There will also be a lot more things announced.

Kudos to Canon for keeping the lid tight, as we simply haven’t been able to publish anything official about the new gear. Surprises are always fun, and there will be a few tomorrow. Both cameras are quite impressive and should make all but the grumpiest people happy.

We will have exclusive goodies for EOS R5 Mark II preorders. Value adds are difficult due to MAP rules with Canon, but we’ve worked hard with a few retailers to make it worthwhile.

Our mailing list may be worth signing up for, even if just for this week. You can obviously unsubscribe at any time.

The Canon EOS R5 Mark II will begin shipping in August, and there is going to be a lot of initial inventory. We don’t expect that you’re going to have wait too long beyond August to get your hands on the camera. There will also be a good inventory of both the battery grip and active cooling grip for the EOS R5 Mark II.

The Canon EOS R1 will begin shipping later in Q4, and that may partly be happening for manufacturing reasons.

Canon Europe will be doing a live presentation for all of the new gear beginning at 12:00PM CEST/6:00AM EDT.

    Plenty of them around lol
I'm a card-carrying member of the grumpy club, but come tomorrow, my R5MII order will be in place at 6am EDT.

I think I'll pass on preorder this time. Need to see the detailed specs and reviews. Unless there's something exceptional like 16-bit raws with 16 stops of DR and/or raw histogram.

  4. Does the announcment tommorow also mean, that all the reviewers/influencers already had their time with the camera? So will there be a lot of preview/review videos beeing published when the embargo ends?

More like "shame on Canon", :)
The reason why we don't get the same info from rumors is that there used to be a guy in Japan who called himself Nokishita. He somehow had inside info. He was always right and would leak info before a launch. Some speculated that he somehow had access to a server that kept the marketing materials for the new cameras, perhaps from a camera store that received them, maybe from a printing company they all used, etc. Either way he was the single source of most leaked info right before a launch. All of the rumor sources used him. For some reason he stopped (or was made to stop), and so now we don't get the same degree of info.
  6. Tbh although it's fun to speculate, I never understood the appeal of leaks. Why does it matter if we get the details today or tomorrow? But then I'm never in the market for preordering.
