It's a shame about Rudy. But almost for sure he got a generous severance package, probably has done quite well through the years, and perhaps will have other opportunities. I think he'll be OK. Given his age, I wonder if they offered him an option to just retire, and he defiantly said "no" and so they laid him off?Very unfortunate about Rudy. I appreciated his insights and was the face of Canon USA for many of us.
Aren't we all !!!Sadly, it is real!
He'll probably get "replaced" with a young, dynamic, inexperienced and cheaper employee...
Interesting. I would be very interested what the chinese original of "Full dual core pixel AF" has been and what a native speaker would translate it to.
It is just a machine translation of Dual Pixel AF. The chinese term is "双核CMOS AF", and if you plug that into Google Translate, you get "Dual-core CMOS AF".Interesting. would it be dual-pixel AF instead of the rumored Quad-Pixel AF?
So, if true, the R1 is smaller (width & height) than the R3 and weighs c100g less?
Anyone have thoughts about what the kit lens bundles will be for the R5? Will it be the RF 24-105 f4 L? (and is it worth it?)
I, for one, expect to be disappointed and "grumpy" as the R5 Mark II will most certainly not have a built-in GPS, and will retain the same body and handling. I just think the current R5 is not an enjoyable camera to hold and use. I like what Nikon did with the Z8, i.e. bigger and keeping the spirit of their DSLR lineup.Tomorrow (July 17, 2024) is the day we finally see the Canon EOS R1 and Canon EOS R5 Mark II in all their glory. There will also be a lot more things announced. Kudos to Canon for keeping the lid tight, as we simply haven't been able to publish anything official about the new gear.

But that's just me ofc.
Then why don't you just buy the Z8? There is enough choice, Nikons are fine cameras too.I, for one, expect to be disappointed and "grumpy" as the R5 Mark II will most certainly not have a built-in GPS, and will retain the same body and handling. Yeah, I feel you. Never liked the R5 too. Exactly the same thoughts: "Stellar tech, but awkward to use."It's similar ergonomics. I never liked the R5... Stellar tech, but awkward to use.
We'll see about GPS, I haven't seen it officially mentioned, but it wasn't mentioned for the R1 either.

Plus, I'm pretty tall and have big hands. Even on my 5D Mark III I needed the grip to have all my fingers on the camera
