Taking a poll
I get double digit queries about a CR forum every week, so I'm putting it to you.
I feel the web has enough photography forums. A few dedicated strictly to Canon. What do you guys/gals think? If the poll is on the side of “yes”, it's going to have to be by a large margin for Canon Rumors to launch forums. Answer as truthfully as possible, we don't need an empty and inactive forum.

The idea is to make CR more interactive for the readers.
A lot of CR posts are very interesting discussion topics as you can see in the replies here.
There’s always an option to “work” with existing forums to include CR as one of their sub-forums… but I see possible conflict of interest in getting stats…etc.
Maybe this blog have a more interactive plug-in for users posting that might be worth a try.
like you said, there are enough photography forums out there. do what you do, and do it well. the less you focus on, the sharper your edge.
Yet another photo forum doesn’t make much sense to me. It won’t generate enough traffic as the already established forums.
However, enhancing the comments feature to be more forum-like makes perfect sense to me.
In other words, turn the comments into a forum where only CR creates the topics and readers can comment the same way as on a forum – with all expected forum features, like reply, quote, etc.
Can’t see the need for another forum and posts can be talked about in the comments feature just fine.
I agree with Cynan. I use POTN and there are several other forums. There is even a POTN subforum dedicated to rumors about Canon equipment. Never as updated as CR though :-) I think the comments feature is just fine and I see no need for user-initiated threads at CR.

oops… my fault… my firefox blocked the reply script. it’s ok now.

Hopefully that’s not a normal script for firefox users. I’ll look into it.
@CR,
It’s my “Noscript” plug-in, it’s defaulted to stop scripts by default. FF users that does not install this plug-in should not have this problem. Was not aware of this block since I can post top-level comments.
*note* max depth of comment is 4 levels deep.
Upped to 10, that should be enough. I’ll work on prettying it up after some sleep.
The problem with forums is that they need to be moderated, or they degenerate into a useless morass of inane childish comments. CR has managed to avoid that for the most part.
If the forums were moderated, they might attract lots of new members, and good content, but it would take a lot of dedicated volunteer help.
I agree with some of the comments that CR blog format is better in controlling contents here. Forums require a lot of resources, not only in moderating the posts but also a lot of bot spams.
The added reply function here helps CR to be more interactive and encourages more participation.

Well yeah, it’s RUMOR site and it would be kind of inappropriate if some NOOBS will post here something like:
“I turned on underwater picture style on my camera, but after i entered the pool my camera stopped working under-water. Is it some kind of driver failure??? Where can i download appropriate drivers???”
I like the site just the way it is. There are plenty of forums out there already. Continue the great work. This place is a lot of fun.
It’s better like this. With a forum, all the members will can post a lots of bullshit.
