STUDIO SOLUTION SOFTWARE FROM CANON U.S.A. SIMPLIFIES WORKFLOW FOR PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESSES
Canon Software Helps Manage Administrative Processes in Photo Studios from Appointments to Image Processing in One Simple Software Solution
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., March 8, 2010 – Canon U.S.A. Inc., a leader in digital imaging technology, is today launching the highly anticipated Studio Solution software for workflow efficiency in professional photo studios. Canon's Studio Solution software helps professional operations take full advantage of Canon's core imaging and printing technologies with fully automatic workflows to simplify studio operations and integrate appointments, invoicing, image enhancement and printing into one administrative program. Through electronic input and filing, Studio Solution software helps consolidate scheduling, contracting, image capture, ordering, retouching and printing into one program. Canon will be demonstrating its Studio Solution software today in Booth #401 at the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) trade show, March 8th – 10th in Las Vegas.
Designed to make everyday tasks easier for photo studio managers and staff, Studio Solution allows for greater staffing efficiencies with improved turnaround time, for increased profitability. The software integrates with Canon EOS cameras, imagePROGRAF and PIXMA Pro printers, and helps ensure studio owners and operators are maximizing their time and equipment.
“We are proud to introduce our Studio Solution software as a powerful tool for photographic studios to help them maximize the efficiencies of their Canon equipment,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Consumer Imaging Group, Canon U.S.A.
The simple-to-learn software solution is made possible by combining Express Digital's technology and workflow along with Canon's proven image processing expertise. Beginning with administrative scheduling, customer information is entered into the Canon software and will follow all customer jobs through ordering and invoicing. A file is created for each customer with complete order details. Images are then attached to each customer job order for optimal filing efficiency. The Studio Solution software then transitions to a studio sales tool by providing on-screen image previews on various Canon media to give the customer an accurate rendering of how their final print will look on various substrates to assist in the print ordering process.
The most integral software feature is Canon's core image processing, providing automatic color management, image resizing and image re-touching for stunning prints with minimal monitoring needed. These automatic processes help reduce the need for timely and expensive image editing, allowing for greater margins and uptime in any Canon-equipped photo studio. Once the final job is printed through the software, an invoice is automatically generated, complete with order details and customer information, without additional manual input.
How Much?
Adorama has it listed at $1499.
cr

what? $1400
Yay for the 3/9 announcement! ;)
This should be FREE
Was this the big announcement for March?
$1400 ?? Gasp. I have CS4 Web Premium + Lightroom. I have 3 1-series bodies, I ought to qualify for a free one >:(
Free? Nothing is ever free. Someone pays for it somewhere. Then everyone else just downloads it.
It’s a Photography Specific workflow (and accounting?) package specifically for professional photographers. So that they can keep track of their jobs better and invoice more appropriately.
Wish they would have spent their time and efforts on autofocus instead of software.
That looks very nice, thanks for the info.
who will pay for this ?
go for Adobe Lightroom, Apple Aperture is much better.
Yeah. Right. Sounds like a bunch of hot air. Like you won’t have to edit photos that clients pay you for. Joke. Hope it’s true. The price is the real joke. Free should be the only price. So many free solutions already out there.
1499 dollars?
You guys complaining about the price or saying it should be free have obviously never used software like this and probably don’t need it.
ShootQ is a pretty standard studio manager software that is widely used in the wedding industry and it costs $40-80 a month. This canon software sounds like it does a lot more than shootQ so $1400 one time price is not unreasonable at all.
No offence, but you’re kind of late. Canon has had a feature about this on their DLC site for eternity.
That’s a hell of a lot of cash. No thanks, I think I’ll use cell phone reminders.
What a rip off!
It’s 3/09
I meant 3/08
The Eurys don’t get this wonderful rip-off?
When I buy my Canon cameras, the DDP is free to me. Its factored into the price, but to the end user its ‘free’.Same way with firmware updates; they are ‘free’ to the end user, but the R&D was factored into the price of the camera.
I see this as the same way. If I buy their printers and cameras, I would expect this to ship free. Said another way, I would expect them to factor this into the price.
the press release for this is 13 months ago: http://www.usa.canon.com/templatedata/pressrelease/20090217_studio_solution.html
Wasn’t there supposed to be an announcement on the 10th of March?
I’m not sure if this will be their only announcement this month.
“Canon Studio Solution Software, Full Version Photo Editing Software for Windows”
… for Windows? Meh.
Really? Windows only?
“You can also run STUDIO SOLUTION on any Mac OS that supports Boot Camp, running Windows Vista (SP2). For more information on running Boot Camp…”
Awesome Canon. Call me when it’s written for OS X.
Yes this is true.
Though this software seems to be more of a job tracking software. Not a firmware or software driver for the camera or a piece of software to view the files created by the camera and the camera settings. Or for the printers.
You have no obligation to buy it. And not everyone will use it because it’s not designed for the consumer market it’s targeted at professionals so they can streamline their work and keep all information on a single job in the one place.
Rather than having a folder here and a folder there and ‘a reminder on a phone’ etc.
I won’t buy it because I don’t need it. I’m not a professional photographer just a consumer with a passion for elite gadgets.
lol.
I like the idea of this software. I don’t necessarily think it should be priced at $1400. If it was priced around the $200 mark, everyone would buy it.
The problem is that there is TONS of software you can get for cheap or free. (in relation to accounting and invoice tracking.)
MacFreelance anyone? Its like $34.
How about Canon first gives us a RAW editor that can compete with Adobe!
I the same as you, I just do this for personal pleasure.
I see your point, where the scheduling is a function not expressly a printer function. In retrospect, perhaps I was too hasty to say it should be free. What gets me on it is this part “The software integrates with Canon EOS cameras, imagePROGRAF and PIXMA Pro printers”. Its not a cross platform solution, e.g. you cannot use Nikon camera and Epson printers, its basically adding a function to the gear you have bought from Canon already.
If not free, the price should be linked somehow to the gear you have. or example, you may get a 200$ discount for every 1-series body you have or a 300$ discount for every imagePROGRAF printer you use.
Ametures are relentless whiners
Many consider DPP to be the gold standard when it comes to RAW decoding, and Adobe 2nd or 3rd. The ease of LR is awesome and Canon can learn a thing or ten.
The quality of the files is subjective of course, so YMMV.
Come on guys. Don’t compare it with cs4 or dpp. It’s meant as an SAP solution, aimed at photographers. Any idea what SAP costs?! To give this away for free is rediculous. Really.
I will just put the money towards my 7D. Sheesh… I don’t even use canon printers.
basically if they cant get DPP right and even to self update , why would anyone pay 1500 for this?
B U L L S H I T
Yes, and when the uninstallation routine leaves your registry and folders in a mess…it makes me wonder what the rest of Canon’s coding is like!
I wouldn’t want a Windows software programmer to do any work on the autofocus system of a DSLR…
Why?
Just, why?
Canon doesn’t make any lens any cheaper just because you own twentyfive 1Ds bodies.
It’s a new product from Canon.
Buy it or leave it. But do not complain.
Windoze only?
FAIL Canon!
Such as?
is there any test or (p)review of this software ?
Wow. Total #fail. Windows only. Not a well thought out product. Does not address needs of the new photography studio. The wording sounds like it may be catering to ‘older’ people. Step one begins the failure. No integration with mobile devices? Where’s the web based app? People don’t even need studios anymore. Just drive down the street, and you will see at least one or two photography studios closed. I wonder if this integrates to a fax machine.
Google it. YouTube it. Do some research and you will find solutions that are far better than this junk that is catering to the oldschool crowd.
shut up.. you have no clue. use yor ixus and let us alone
maybe your just to stupid?
even my mum (60 years) can install DPP without a problem….
you dont know what it is for but you open your dumb mouth…
Lol. Yeah. I should stop following this site anywho.. Have fun with this outdated software that will be needing updates that you won’t receive right after install. heading out to shoot – where’s my ixus? Ciao. Bunswahh
Clearly Canon regards anything lesser than these two printer categories to be below their notice. They can’t be bothered to release a 64-bit-capable OS X driver for the MP960, so with Snow Leopard printing is crippled, and ICC profiles are similarly absent. Grrr.
and others are terrible at ssspeiling…
I think you have missed the point of people complaining about it. ShootQ does not limit you to Canon only products. The point is that Canon (by publishing this) makes his market position stronger and limits user to Canon only products. Similar products can be found for free in other industries, or at least for a more decent price. Imagine if Canon published a firmware that killed all third party lenses… and charged $2500 for it! Doesn’t make much sense.
Complaining… I don’t see much complaining on the site, to be honest. It is simply expressing an opinion and everyone has the right to do so. I feel that most of the buyers are going to be fancy smug-loving wanna be professionals, trying to show how much better they are than … what was the term used in one of the comments? Lemme check… ah yes amateur relentless whiners.
For people not buying it, it is a good news. If Canon gets more money from those people, rational photographers might get real stuff for less money. Hopefully.
Why? This is a studio management solution. If you need such a thing then $1400 is probably quite reasonable.
It’s a niche product aimed at STUDIOS.
The lack of a 64bit driver doesn’t “cripple” Snow Leopard printing support. FFS people, get a grip.
Werd.
That’s a lot of money. Hope there is a trial version on Bittorrent soon.
DPP is a better at converting RAWs. LR is better at… everything else.
I’d love to see this demoed – and see a walk-through of everything that it can do. A trial version, mayhaps?
What’s an example of free software such as this in other industries?
I like that Randy. “Passion for elite gadgets.” :D
Precisely why no other sites have picked up on this. It’s old news. CR guy is out of his league on this one. Sorry man, love the site, but this is not CR post worthy…
LOL :)
Yes, it does. When you have a 64-bit app, say Mail.app, half the panes in the print dialog are stroked-out and can’t be selected. That’s pretty crippling.
For a system like that, $1500 is a bargain. It should pay for itself in 2 weeks.
Its way beyond my current needs though.
It’s called a ph-phone keyboard, you square.
It’s just funny because people are complaining about a piece of software to help operate a business. Either buy it, keep doin your work in notepad like a cavedweller, or buy something else and just shut the hell up already, for christs sake.
werd!!!
hahahaha why read the post if you can just see the price and compare to a cheaper random software…
american dollars. yes.
i think thats tomorrow… like future not past
Why do you need to spend 1400$ when you already have a fully fonctionnal direct prin button ??? :)
Can you please explain how exactly it would pay for itself in 2 weeks? Not trying to be sarcastic, just for all us non-professionals, we have a hard time understanding what exactly you can do with this type of software. And I use a very simple workflow. Would this be an all-encompassing workflow program or what?
No Mac’y no tickey.
The crack will be on Bittorrent soon…..

nO IT SHOULD NOT
YOU ARE VEEEERRY WELCOME
NO 1499 STICKS – MORON
NONE, PAY THE DEV’S CHEAPSKATE
OS X SUCKS
NO IM BETTER AT EVERYTHING ELSE
TRUE THAT MY BROTHER
BECASE, JSUT BECASE
best announcement ever
I agree, I hate OS X but I still use it and most graphic designers and Pro photographers as well….. Is there any thing better than Mac OS X? Windows 10?
It runs your business. Keeps track of all orders, photographs, integrates editing of images, prints quantities and sizes ordered, and prepares the bills for the customer.
For example, if some one places a order, and checks blocks on the order form for 10 of these, 2 of these, album #XXXX in green leather, and so on, it will integrate with the photo database, correct the prints for color, and send them to the printer in the quantities and sizes you want, and print out the invoice. Probably more.
This is not a photo editor, its a business tool that integrates production of images with your orders. If you pay a persons wages full time to do this manually. This can save a ton of money, but not if you do not have lots of customers and business. You will know if you need something like this.
If you do only one job every couple of weeks, obviously, you might not want it or need it, but, if you’ve got a busy studio with lots of orders and one of the $$,$$$ printers churning out prints all day, it is a productivity tool.
What are the solutions you speak of?
By oldschool crowd, you mean people that actually do professional photography for money, then yes, you are correct.
Troll.
I for one love OS X
Well I guess that’s pretty cool. Sounds pretty good for large businesses. I’m just thinking that the only thing this cannot replace are cute receptionists :(
ditto
seriously, what software? any reasonable ERP software out that, with customization for studio would be at range of 4 to 5 figures (depends on the complexity required). not even mention online proofing and other features that are useless to amateur, but very useful to professionals & studios. I would say it’s a very good price if it does what it advertised.
totally agree. most people have no idea on how much does it cost to have a customized SAP software, and the need of studios.
don’t compare this software with Quickbook or MacFreelance. it’s more like a customized ERP software w/ full security features on user-based security for studio, with document control and RAW file compatibility, and online proofing services (just saw that briefly on canon site, need to see live demo for that). generally a software like that would cost minimum 5 figures. go figure.
Wasn’t this announced like a year ago? http://bit.ly/ccapAo
Cute or hot?
Not the same thing.
Any review of this software?
If this software was written by the same
people who wrote EOS Utility and all of
it’s companion software…….
I’LL PASS!
– ennis :)
Ah, Blue Light does this for $300.
And I agree: EOS/DPP developers? No thank you.
You have probably seen at least one of the Shrek movies (there are three until now). Each one of these movies has been a success and this is why they are making a fourth one. Unfortunately, Shrek Forever After is also going to be the last installment in the series. No more Shrek movies after this one.
