From Russia with Love
Here is a rather funny story from Russia.

More pictures and the full story from: http://englishrussia.com/?p=2260
Recently Russian service centers of Canon have started receiving complains from the people having the troubles with their Canon… vacuum cleaners.
It seems that one large electronics supplier in Russia has bought somewhere what they truely believed to be Canon Vacuum Cleaners, and even advertised them. So many bought intrigued by the brand name and overall feeling to get something cool from Canon.
Now it seems it was a nice planned action to sell thousands of some third party, probably Chinese vacuum cleaners labeled as “Canonâ€Â, having the manual and boxes looking like actual Canon stuff.
cr

Not that funny when people get swindled out of their cash.
Hey, they even have a *fake* website at http://www.canon-electronics.com (confirmed fake with whois records)
Now Adam, I understand your point, but it is amazing that anyone would buy a vacuum cleaner with a New York City phone number on it, with European voltage (220v/50Hz). Its like buying a Ford branded SLR.
Anyone who believes a story like this is a raving idiot. The photos are probably doctored, and if not, I would guess that someone illegally used the Canon trademark in a scam.
Did you even read the article? It’s pretty short. Give it a try!
Why not? We have Eddie Bauer branded Fords!
I’d be tempted to pick up one of those Vacs just for the box! I could add it to my “box shots” for all the Canon gear I’ve bought over the years.
“Anyone who believes a story like this is a raving idiot.” – i’m an idiot? In Russia stories like this easily may become true :D
Tim, you probably never met “real” Russian:)
Yes it’s sad that someone used Canon trademark on their product, but:
1. it’s not America
2. whatever makes consumer happy
I’m sure Nikon could make a really good vacuum as we all know they suck the most.
Russia uses 220v AC power. Honda brand appeared on some cheapo mountain bikes sold in K-mart a few years ago and it turned out to be really sanctioned by Honda. So this is hardly surprising.
Yeah! Nikon to vacuum cleaners! LOL
I wonder if Dyson can make cameras coz their vacuums damn good :)

Did you see what is says on the LABEL for the address?
Address: USA, 10010 New York, Broadway 1133 Office 706
What a hoot!
If anyone is to believe this story, their counterfeit POS dust sucker fails, and they are directed to the USA for support information. Chinese counterfeiters selling to Russian mobster-run businesses, who blame it all on Canon USA.
Someone has a sense of humor!
I really really *HATE* the Chinese for doing those knock-offs. Parasites.
I wonder if it can sucks in RAW… Maybe Canon preparing for another bad year and finding niches. How do you think  will it be noisy?
p.s. I’m from Russia and I know what those Chinese people can do. Fake labels are illegal you said? Sue them then :)
They just don’t care about that trivia.
So this is the new antidust system that goes into the 1DV…
I also fell for a fraud involving Canon. I bought a Canon GL2 Digital video camera and a Canon EOS 20D. I discovered the shoddy products are frauds made by rippoff artists who put Canon on the camera. That is, Canon Inc. Themselves. They make crap and don’t stand behind their products.
Do not purchase any Canon products they are crap designed with planned obsolescence. Do your research.
Canon Inc. doesn’t need crooked Russians to screw up their reputation. They are experts at that themselves.
Great work! I also have my own blog I just find it hard to write quality content like this.
I guess I really don’t have the time.
Great journalism – NOT, before I queue up with the lemming (vermins) in the comments section to condemn the Chinese for making this. Let’s see some proof that it was made by them. Oh wait, no evidence, just bull$hit from another russian blog site (they’re so full of $hit these days). Apparently its a valid source/citation if you blog something, state something totally bogus like ‘it came from the Chinese’ and referred to yet another idiot blog (EnglishRussia). How’s that a valid and credible news piece? For all you know it was the Russians that produced these knock-offs, why not, they produce illegal vodka using sewage tanks for distillers (true, I’m not making this up).

Friends, can you assist? A good friend of mine is thinking about buying themselves a new Honda CBR 1000 as their first new bike! Never rode anything else before! I said this is definitely not a very good idea for the first one, but they are adamant and wont change their mind! What do you rekon, is this ok and would you then just recommend good lessons?
I hardly ever comment on articles, but your post encouraged me to commend your writings. Thank you for writing this, I’ll favorite this blog and visit once in awhile. Cheers.
