1. gray market is not exactly useful for a US resident. having to get it serviced at an international site is very inconvenient.

   And not true.
   
   I have bought grey market and had it serviced under warranty by Canon USA for free. There are no guarantees they will but so far I haven't heard of a single instance where Canon USA have denied a genuine warranty claim on a Canon product, though there was a big question mark on one or two of the earlier M cameras. because Canon USA never actually imported them.
   
   Don't forget Canon USA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon Japan.

3. I've bought a lot of gray Canon items, and I've never had an issue with Canon USA refusing service. Granted, all of my items were outside the warranty period, but it is one big reason why I stay with Canon.

4. On sale because no one wants it. No different than the 5d4. Actually worse because the shutter speed sucks on it.

   Mine does up to 1/8000 sec, shutter speed, same as my 5D MK IV. Why do you think its less, is yours different?
   
   Canon is holding the price up longer than expected, I get a discount on all Canon cameras thru my employer, and normally even new models, but no discount on the R or RF lenses.
