DxO announces 1,192 new Optics Modules, giving you unmatched corrections for the latest cameras from Canon, along with a list of recently-announced lenses: two new kit lenses from Canon, the intriguing new pancake lens from Nikon, the innovative 20-70mm f/4 G from Sony, and a couple of lenses and teleconverters from Sigma.

The detailed analyses carried out in our purpose-built lab here in Paris means that DxO gives you unmatched image quality. In total, more than 82,000 camera and lens combinations are supported — each one tested individually for absolute precision.

The new modules are available right now across the range of DxO software: DxO PhotoLab, DxO PureRAW, DxO ViewPoint, DxO FilmPack, and in Nik Collection as part of Nik Perspective Efex.

This month's list includes:

Why are DxO Optics Modules different?

Lens softness correction

  • Lens softness correction usually means measuring softness at the center of the lens and applying a correction across the entire frame. At DxO, we know that lenses tend to get softer towards the edge, so we target our sharpening depending on how much is needed across different parts of the frame. With more sophisticated profiles, you get sharper images.

Better distortion corrections

  • Correcting distortions can sometimes mean having to crop an image. With a zoom lens, inferior software will apply this crop across the entire focal range. However, DxO’s more precise measurements mean that the crop is only applied where necessary, potentially give you more image area from the same photo.

Chromatic aberrations accurately removed

  • Because longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberrations can vary according to focal length and focal distance, DxO Optics Modules take these into account when applying corrections, giving you more precise results.

Vignetting removal that doesn’t degrade quality

  • When correcting for darker corners, DxO Optics Modules do not introduce noise, and nor do they shift colors.

  1. The R8 is on the list. It’s nice that DxO is now getting Canon bodies far enough in advance that corrections are available when the camera ships.

Means I won’t even need to open DPP when my R8 arrives.

About time. In the past we have had to wait months or even until a new paid for upgrade.
