The first image of the upcoming GFX100RF, which will be Fujifilm's newest medium format camera, which promises to be a fixed focal length rangefinder camera. This camera is one of the Fujifilm Wifi registrations that most likely happened recently.

As far as the current rumors seem to indicate, this is appearing to have the following core specifications and features (thanks to FujiRumors)

  • 100MP Medium Format Sensor
  • 35mm F4 Lens (approximately 28mm full frame equivalent field of view)
  • No IBIS
  • EVF and no Hybrid Optical / Electronic viewfinder
  • Available in two different color styles, silver and black
  • Cost around $5000

From the image we see the rather unique aspect ratio selection dial (do people really change this so much that they need a dedicated special dial) – This isn't the first camera to make a special point of this. While I can see different aspect ratios for various social media images, etc. I can't see shooting with 100MP for that, and most people would simply crop in post processing to their hearts desire. Camera real estate is limited, so I'm curious on the use cases for this.

Other than the aspect ratio dial, the Fujifilm GFX100RF also includes a combination ISO shutter speed dial, exposure compensation, and a pretty standard layout. it's hard to tell from that on how deep the grip is going to be and how the EVF appears. It also seems to be a fixed LCD screen.

The entire size, according to rumor is supposed to be similar to the size of the X-Pro3 but a bit taller. This would closely make it around the same size (but not as deep) as the Canon R5.

So not something that is a pocket camera for sure, but it is 100 megapickles of 1.25x larger than full frame goodness.

The sensor that will be used leaves nothing on the table in terms of image quality, it's top notch and I'm sure Fuji's prime lens they will be using with this will take full advantage of the sensor.

Dynamic Range Comparison R5 Mark II vs Fujifilm GFX100

Dynamic Range, the Fujifilm GFX sensor is around 1 stop better in terms of RAW dynamic range performance.

Fujifilm is certainly looking at capturing the magic of the X100 series in the larger form factor (and thus a far more expensive camera). It will be interesting to see if this camera is as popular as the X100 series, and especially the current X100 VI.

We hope to hear more details about this new medium format GFX100RF camera soon.
