I don't mind, as long as the production of high-end cameras (R5 II, R 1 & R 100) stays in Japan.

I thought much of it was as well.

I guess that labor costs still matter, highly skilled machine operators and maintenance staff are well paid.
Besides, logistics, packaging, testing cannot be fully automated.

If memory serves, some companies have moved from China to Vietnam because labor costs are even lower there.

We cannot afford such expensive cameras in France, we use cheapo Sonies and plasticky Tammies. We can only dream of R 100, R1 and similar beauties.
And yes, my initial post (meanwhile corrected) could lead to such a treacherous attack.

Canon may also have moved out of China due to the extreme technology leakage that occurs there. Some noted at the time that Canon was early to recognize the China competitive threat and it is definitely showing up in lenses this year.
