Canon RF 20-50mm f/4L IS USM PZ Specifications

The 20-50 focal length is ideal for street photography. However, the lens is quite large for streetphotography, especially with the lens hood. It would be nice if Canon released a 35mm pancake f/2.8. This, in combination with the R8, seems great for street photography. The 28mm, on the other hand, is just a bit too wide.

So it’s a fly-by-wire zoom.

A lens with three nano USM motors (two for zooming) and IS.

1:3 macro at 50mm, updated IS rated at 6 f-stops alone, L-series build quality with weather sealing, internal zooming.

Looks like it’s got the whole package!

Very cute, I just wonder how the power consumption will be, specially with cameras like the R8.

EDIT:
I'm absolutely speculating, but I suppose this lens may feature a new design, without a zooming helicoid. Being nano USM a type of linear motor, I suppose one zooming motor may operate one way, while the other motor does the job the opposite way, with both featuring positioning sensors. I suppose that could allow more combinations of positions for both zooming and focusing groups of lens elements, than traditional helicoid mechanisms.

I agree. This lens is very appealing to me. I'd like to see more pancakes generally though....

28 is a bit wide for me too and 44 (apsc crop) often a bit narrow. Canon would make me very happy if they would just add a 1.3x crop raw option in camera, as then it would be a 28, 35 and ~44 all in one.

This is an amazing lens for street photography, as a street photographer myself, I hope it is 20-60 like the Lumix kit zoom, however I like it has internal ZOOM which means it is not that big when we zoom in, which is not bad for SP. I am now consider it alongside the 28-70/2.8 for use of SP. Personally own the R50v and the PZ zoom kit lens, i love that lens for it's internal zooming capability.

Looking at the construction and comparing it to Sony's 20-70, I think this lens is build even more advanced compared to the Sony 20-70. The Canon uses more advanced glass elements compared to the Sony Lens.

If the price comes down in future, it is something I am eying on.

All great specs, definitely interesting and useful. The only thing I am turned off by is the aperture. I wish it was 2.8 :( For indoor it might be a bit dark... Everything else is YAMMY!~ BTW was the 24-70 f2.8 supposed to have Mark2 version this year? Any rumors on it? :)

Impressed. A definite buy for me for the following reasons 1) internal zooming, 2) covers a very useful range, 3) lightweight at less than 1 lb.
One question still is open: How good is it? I'll know it in a few weeks/months...
But I am quite confident, the RF L lenses didn't disappoint till now. I certainly do not expect an exception to this unwritten rule!
Mine will be used as an EDC and as a complement to the 70-200 in cities, hoping to be able to add a 14mm T/S in future.

Not available yet here. There is a Canon 20-50mm lens available, but it’s the CN-E T2.4 version for $24K. I’ll wait a bit over two hours for the RF version.
I know, but I could place an order for it (or make a reservation) at KameraExpress, a Dutch company.
Since I expect longer delivery times , "or a "currently not available" I wanted to get it as soon as possible.
So I contacted their local store to be first on the list.
I WANT THIS LENS !!!!
