Canon owns nearly countless patents that have never appeared in a product for sale. Some seem submitted almost solely for the purpose of preventing others to use an idea without paying royalties to Canon.

No, it's not plastic. It's magnesium like most of the rest of the body. Here is a photo from the teardown Lens Rentals did on the EOS R showing that the back of that camera was magnesium, and a photo of the exposed R5 body.

Also, I don't understand how some sort of cooling EF to RF adapter would work or even make sense. So it's just blowing air onto the sensor, along with a ton of dust? Even if you put a filter on the fan, then it's going to become clogged over time. And then you're restricted to only using old EF lenses if you want good cooling on the body?

It doesn't necessarily "have" to blow air on the sensor any more than a nuclear powered reactor "has" to use dirty (radioactive) water to turn the steam turbines (they don't).

If there is a heat exchanger involved, the fans could be on one side of an internally sealed chamber in the adapter cooling one side of the heat exchanger and the rest of the camera on the other side of the internal seal.

That all depends upon how arid or humid the climate is in which you are shooting.

If you're in Dubai, the ice pack solution works wonderfully. If you're in a tropical rainforest, not so much.

Correct, however this won’t affect Canon or a third party manufacturer abilities to offer similar solution.

It will affect third parties. They'll need to pay Canon royalties to sell their product in any country in which Canon holds a similar patent or in any country that observes the The Patent Cooperation Treaty of 1970 and similar compacts.
