Has anyone got their R8 yet?

Since the R8 is virtually identical to the RP, here's an RP with the RF50L and RF85, an M50 and blues brother included for scale. The EG-E1 mini grip is attached in both of the pictures.

It's close, but not identical. I think the R8 looks way nicer and looks are important to me when selecting a camera, so that's why I was curious. The viewfinder hump of the R8 looks a lot like the original 5D, which I think is still one of the most beautiful cameras ever made.

But from the front the R8 viewfinder bump is softer, and while I'm very much about function over form, I'll admit the R8's bump is more aesthetically pleasing.

I thought about a R8 to replace my R5, but I need to realize that I can't get out and take photos like I used to, or I would have kept the R5. I'm still wondering if I can handle a APS C for the next few years.

Still don't understand why they made subtle changes to the body but didn't bother to update the R8 plate to match the newer R cameras. Instead they just squeezed R8 into that old square plate. I know it is just the plate and it doesn't do anything but why not have a consistent design in your lineup?

Point of clarification, what 'square plate' are you talking about?
FWIW, I think it's great that the R8 is able to use the grip extension from the RP, since that also means it can use L-plates for the RP.

Just meant the name tag/plate next to the mount that says R8 which still has the same style as the old R/RP and not like the newer ones. It is nitpicking I know but I do like attention to detail.
I have mixed feelings about reusing the old body. On one hand you can still use the old grip extension and other accessories which is nice but I a slightly bigger and improved body would have been nice as well. I find the RP slightly too small for my hands but with the grip extension it is usually too much. But in the end I will be happy with these tradeoffs if the IQ and AF in the R8 is as good as in the R6 II.

Hard to please everyone. Personally, for ergonomic comfort in use I far prefer integrated-grip bodies. I've never used the RP, I had the somewhat larger EOS R but my 1D X remained my primary camera until the R3 came out.
I ordered the R8 specifically for travel, knowing I'm trading off comfort and controls for small size and light weight. I don't plan to purchase the grip extension, but the RRS L-plate for the RP will fit the R8, it's contoured like the camera base and adds ~6 mm (1/4") to the grip height and provides an attachment socket for my BlackRapid QD strap.
Based on the specs, they will be.

I love the size of the RP, I just hated that you can't program the ISO to the rear dial...which apparently the R8 fixes. Also I love the viewfinder hump design on the R8, the RP just had a weird cheap looking lego brick sitting on top with the canon logo, this looks much more molded like the original 5D.

Mine is scheduled to arrive 5 hours from now, which is close enough to bed time that I'll likely save unpacking it till tomorrow.

The HF anti flicker options works very, very well. I haven’t used the mechanical shutter yet, everything has been ES so far
