Canon Registers a Second Unreleased EOS R Camera

The second camera sound’s intriguing: either it is the R7ii which would fit the theory that the camera is indeed ready and Canon wants to be prepared to release it whenever necessary. The June registration should give them 6 months, right?

Another possibility would be r10ii or r50ii. This seems odd to me because I believe it would make more to revamp this line up after the r7ii has gone upmarket.

I honestly don’t think we’ll be seeing a totally new camera with a new number.

Could this new registration be a Cinema Eos camera above the C400?

Hopefully the new R8 comes with Ibis. I would pay $2-2.2K for such a camera. Similar to the Sony A7C but Canon.
There’s always room to add a more basic $1.5K ish full frame EOS R body below this possible new R8 with IBIS

I think the R8 as we know it is now dead. The evolution from the RP into the R8 is complete and that's as far as Canon will take it. The R8ii is a new thing and related in name only. It will have a new design ethos and and a new play book that details the parameters and market segment for this new camera genre. Canon are redefining their budget full frame camera and it's obvious that they will be chasing young new photographers, not necesarrily old seasoned geezers looking to reminice over the older glory years of film / slide and "oh my God this camera has a light meter built in! PROGRESS! We are not the target demographic for this camera. Canon are not risking their R6 or R5 linage on this Vintage spin, they are going for the old SLR Rebel / Elan entry point.
This camera will try to woo newbies and youngsters who want a hipster shiney cool new camera. So expect a ton of auto modes on the top dial.

In your article you typed "EOS 7D Mark II?" :p

I think an R8 II would be perfect if they just added a joystick, the R10 has one so I don't think it's too much to ask. They could always keep the original R8 in the lineup to replace the RP and have the retro R8 II.

IBIS will make the camera bulkier and less compact because the movement of the sensor requires space and the axles (correct term?) also need space. Therefore, the camera would look more like a R6 and would be way to close to it. R6 is probably the camera you need. Good for you, the R6ii sells clearly below your price point of 2 $

We oldies are way more hi-tech than you youngsters! No more dials, you speak to the camera, which recognises your voice. My Samsung tv works that way, and Sony must have all the tech for their consumer goods.

The two unannounced camera models, DS126947 registered on 15 April and DS126973 registered on 2 June, only support Wi-Fi 4 (64-QAM).

All Canon cameras announced since 2024 have been equipped with Wi-Fi 5 (256-QAM), except for the EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1, which have Wi-Fi 6 (1024-QAM).

The two unannounced models are therefore entry-level models, possibly compact cameras.

Wifi 4 is not really the way to compete with smartphones in terms of connectivity and fast availability... not sure thats the right way to go. In my opinion, cameras across all manufacturers need a much better implementation and should connect faster, communicate better with SP, and do so more reliably and stably.

all we know is that it will be an EOS R interchangeable-lens camera because of the “DS” ahead of the model numbers.

The "DS" ahead of the model number is not limited to interchangeable-lens cameras.

  • DS586237 = BR-E2 (wireless remote control)
  • DS126899= PowerShot V1
  • DS586234 = WM-E1-R (receiver)
  • DS586233 = WM-E1-R (micro and wireless transmitter)
  • DS126883 = PowerShot V10
  • DS401244 = Speedlite EL-5 (flash)
  • DS401243 = Speedlite transmitter
  • DS126849 = PowerShot Zoom
  • DS401231 = Speedlite EL-1 (flash)
  • DS126834 = PowerShot Pick
