Do you remember this classic? I'd imagine the Canon RF version would be lighter. I still use the Sigma, but it's another one of those lenses that, for the moment, is irreplaceable. Plus, what I'd really like is the snappy AF accuracy of the 70-200mm f/2.8, or pretty close.

I would much more see space for a FF vlogger body without EVF and small size.
Someone (@koenkooi ?) mentioned the idea of a FF M6 II with RF mount. Why not?

I've honestly been thinking about this for a while as well. Or even more likely, an APS-C equivalent. It wasn't that long ago that the M50 and M6mkII were the hottest selling cameras in Canon's lineup. Now there's nothing in the lineup that matches that form factor and functionality. I can't imagine Canon is blind to that. Frankly, I was a little bit stumped by the R100, because it's much too obvious that it's a stripped down version of the R50. The R50 made sense to kind of occupy the space of the former Rebel line. But to date there's nothing that comes close to what they had with the very well-received M-series bodies.

• Compatible with RF extenders (for increased working distance with dragonflies, butterflies and other insects)

• Focus limiter (from closest focus to +/- 1 meter)
• Removable tripod collar
• Weight: equivalent to, or lighter than, the EF 180mm

Fun fact, I've been using the R5 and I can confidently tell you, EVF performance hugely drops in low-light conditions all the way to even lagging. I figure it's the same with all brands.

Canon lags, but wouldn't add artificial noise in the EVF to render it useless. And tbh I found Canon's lag less than Sony.

Me not. Canon always had a cheapo entrance body (e.g. EOS1000) that people with some tech knowledge would always avoid and buy the next better one.
Maybe I was stumped by how much Canon made the R100 worse than the R50. Maybe not...

When I was shopping around for a longer-than-150mm macro lens, that was on my list. But I couldn't find any unused copies of both the OS and non-OS version. And the used copies I could find were more expensive that the list price. I did (and do) have a preference for first party lenses, but in 2020 there was only a single option available with a decent cost/benefit ratio: the EF180L.

The EF180L is fairly heavy, I would strongly prefer a lighter replacement. If Canon manages to sneak in f/2.8, IS and fast motors (e.g. VCM for the heavy group) and keep the weight the same or less, I wouldn't hesitate. But a heavier version will need consideration. The EF180L is still sharp on an R7 and the FTM makes correcting the macro focus inability of the R7 very easy. "Heavily defocused" is pretty much the default state when working at macro distances.

Unbelievable, an RF 50mm f/1.4! That would be close to a real wonder, after maybe 20 years of speculation whether Canon would bring an optically improved upgrade in that classic "medium fast" 50mm section. The current EF 50mm f/1.4 hit the market in 1993 and really needs an overhaul. Optically, it is getting very soft in the edges wide open (though very sharp at f/5.6), and its micro USM drive is quite slow, plus it is not very reliably focusing wide open. I had this lens for some years and never was too happy with it.

Oh, my FD 50mm 1.4 is still in stellar shape .....

Absolutely. I'll go even further - 80-135/2. Such a lens you will use in studio, events, etc, not travel/nature, so and weight is less of an issue.
I definitely need sub 2.8 lenses but keeping the versatility of zoom lenses. I'd switch the 24-70/2.8+70-200/2.8 combo for a 24-50/2+80-135/2 combo anytime.

I'd prefer a bit more reach, even knowing there will be a weight/size increase. 70-200/2 would be ideal, 70-150 at a minimum (either could start at 80mm). Personally, I would not switch but rather bring the 28-70/2 and the longer f/2 zoom for low-light events, and the 24-105/2.8 and 100-300/2.8 (or 70-200/2.8) for better lit or outdoor events.

...and yet again it wouldn't be hard to spread a bit of canon-hate for closing the mount, since the sigma 28-45/1.8 was announced.

You can't really say the mount is closed anymore, since Sigma has announced 6 RF mount lenses. But we don't know when/if Canon will allow FF 3rd party lenses. Still, personally I'd take the 28-70/2 over the 28-45/1.8. The much broader focal range makes it far more useful than 1/3-stop of aperture, for me. The limited range of 28-45mm is functionally a prime lens, so if I needed that I'd just buy the 35/1.4 and take one step back or forward as needed.

It is a $4K camera vs a $6,500 camera, so yes.

Comments like this perplex me. I don't want to offend, but what shots aren't you getting in low light with an R6? The noise at 6400 is fantastic. Stuff like this I can never figure out if its a troll, or the harsher reality of a lack of experience or skill in certain departments. And I know that comes off as rude, but I am generally curious what shots y'all are missing with an R6.

I can't say I've had so much trouble with iso 6400 on a 5DIV, but my expectations may be different. With that said, I've been pleasantly surprised with the performance of Adobe's AI denoise - I've been using the crap out of that and really happy with the results, though you can get a touch of the uncanny valley effect when zoomed way in.

Somehow they forgot the extenders with the 100mm. They forgot about the butterflies.

To this list I'd add a much better quality of borders/corners at infinity setting. This would make it a perfectly universal tele lens.

The EF 100 mm macrolenses didn’t work with extenders either (if my memory serves me well). I do not need a 1.4 magnification ratio, that’s why it isn’t on my wishlist. But if Canon includes it, that is fine with me.

Petapixel has a post about Apple’s WWDC and a new RF-S VR lens from Canon: “During the presentation, Apple promoted a new lens for Canon cameras — a 7.8mm f/4 STM — that can capture video that, when combined with Vimeo, allows immersive video to be viewed on Apple Vision Pro. The lens appears attached to an EOS R7, indicating that it is likely designed to be used with APS-C cameras, although this is unconfirmed. This ecosystem of hardware and software will be fully rolled out by the end of the year.”

This may be the APS-C VR lens that Canon has shown at photoshows in Japan (or China) and the UK.
