We have confirmed that there are counterfeit Speedlite 600EX-RT flash products in circulation in the market. It has been reported that these products are being sold through various online marketplace websites. These counterfeit products have not been designed or manufactured by Canon, but fraudulently display the Canon logo, and may also fraudulently display other Canon and third party trademarks. Furthermore, these counterfeit products have not been manufactured or tested under the safety standards established by Canon, so we are unable to make representations concerning their safe operation, and there is a possibility that using one of these counterfeit products may cause adverse affects such as generation of fire and/or smoke.

The safety of our consumers is our utmost concern. Unlike genuine Canon products, counterfeit products may not meet government and industry safety standards. To ensure that you’re buying genuine Canon products, we recommend purchasing from a Canon Authorized Dealer or directly from Canon. Please be advised that Canon is not responsible for any malfunction, accident, or damage related to the use of any counterfeit product.

It has also been confirmed that the radio transmission wireless shooting function incorporated into genuine Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT flashes is not incorporated into the counterfeit product. This missing feature will limit the performance of the counterfeit flash, as compared with a genuine Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT flash.

We truly appreciate your attention to this matter and thank you for being a valued Canon customer.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm just away to purchase another unit so I'll be wary of eBay thats for sure. I think I'll just head through to the city and get one from the local camera store instead.

Waste of energy and talent on making fake stuff.
If you can sell enough to unsuspecting naive users, at Canon prices or almost, and not at Yongnuo ones, from their perspective is not any waste  Surely no little effort was spent into this, it's not just a fake battery.

I have a friend who bought a 5ct diamond ring for his wife many years back. She is known to wear it in public when out shopping, etc. We asked her if she was not worried, and she just said that everyone believes its a fake :)

Ha, Ha, Ha---Dear Great Teacher Mr. Mt Spokane.
She is right ="she just said that everyone believes its a fake".
8 -10 years ago, There was Tornado hit my City, Raleigh, North Carolina, And Some of my dear Friend " they from Laos/ SE. Asia Country" have total damaged---And a lot of 24 K( 99.99% GOLD), Real Gold necklet/ Jewelry lay on the ground in the night time after the tornado gone. Yes, Some bad people come to steal the good TV, Cameras----ETC, but do not touch the 24 K Gold Jewelry , because they think = The FAKED ONE----Ha, Ha, Ha.
Have a great week end, Sir.

If it's too good to be true, it probably is. I guess this is the one time the "probably" comes in to play.

That's because 21-24K gold jewelry looks fake to someone that has never seen it. It looks like polished brass.

Completely different color compared to the 10K, 14K and 18K stuff.

I'll say the same thing I say to parents of scouts. Carry what you can afford to LOSE. Don't worry as much about damage. You need to consider the entire scope of the loss, not just the first type (theft?) that comes to mind. My wife has a high dollar emerald wedding ring with diamonds that I bartered with a jeweler friend for waaay back and while I "paid" a small amount, it appraises for five figures. She works at a county hospital. She wears her wedding band 95% of the time and only wears the emerald ring on special occasions.

A similar approach is what I tell CLIENTS about data and system backups. Hard drive crashes are what most folks worry about. What I worry about is user error = accidental deletions, virus attacks and accidental overwrites. Hard drive crashes are much less common than user error. Backups protect against both. :)

As for the topic of COUNTERFEIT PRODUCTS, I hate them. If I want a cheaper 3rd party alternative, I'll buy it and I often do for batteries, flashes, flash triggers, etc. But if I am being misled into paying full price for a genuine Canon Flash that is fake, that is FRAUD and I am getting conned, screwed, ripped off, etc. (Unless that flash is $10.) :(
