</strong>B&H Photo has limited stock of the Canon ST-E3-RT wireless transmitter. This seems to be a difficult accessory to get your hands on judging by the emails I get.</p>
<p>This transmitter is only compatible with the <a href="http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/847537-REG/Canon_5296B002_Speedlite_600EX.html/bi/2466/kbid/3296" target="_blank">Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT</a>. There are rumors of a less expensive radio receiving flash in the near future. The last word was it would come in the first quarter of 2013.</p>

Just got mine, took about 4 months to get it from Amazon (sold & shipped by Amazon, not 3rd party), sale price was $319, I paid $105 plus my Amazon points.

I am a little surprised that so many people were not able to get their hands on this unit. They have been available at numerous authorized dealers at similar or even lower prices compared to BHphoto since launch.

Those thinking about making the jump to radio should do it. It is awesome not having to worry about LoS and the all-in-one package of the 600EX-RT is both more compact, less expensive (vs. 580EX II + PW) and more reliable than other wireless solutions. Huge downside is that it is quite expensive to upgrade exisiting gear. I am optimistic though that a third party manufacturer will make adapters compatible with Canon's RT system so that you can used any flash (Canon, Yongnuo, Bowers, ect) with the system.

Because none of the big three e-tailers have had them in stock much. Amazon has only had them in stock once.

Is it that its popular or that there's limited supply? If its popular, then Canon did well with the new speedlite. I have 3 580ex IIs so I won't be upgrading. The downside to this trigger is that it is not compatible (not even limited) with the older speedlites. The benefit of 3rd party triggers is their compatibility with other strobes and studio strobes.

+1. If Canon releases an RF-receiver that I can use to trigger a monolight, I'll switch to their -RT system.

I got tired of waiting for B&H and bought mine on Amazon last month, from a 3rd party seller. $328, but the free shipping and no tax more than made up for the extra nine bucks for the B&H one.

I mostly use the 600EX's but kept my Plus II's for my studio packs, figured in a pinch I can plug a sync cable into the camera if the hotshoe is occupied by the ST-E3-RT, but to be honest I rarely mix speedlights with studio lights.

I've no doubt that either Canon or a 3rd party (latter more likely) will have a RT receiver out in due time. Just a dumb trigger like the Plus II would be fine so should be fairly simple to engineer.
