doesnt say anything about it unfortunately in the canon releases

It would be good, even if it is just the 1 series implementation moved across.

Simple ec in M mode would be good, with the 1 series implementation having wider reaching benefits

I wonder if this is the start of improved customisation through better firmware menus.

It could be that Canon have been listening and seeing ML

I wonder also if the announcement of new firmware implies anything about the eventual 7D successor or lack thereof.

Isn't it a little unusual for Canon to do this major a firmware update? Usually they just put out bug fixes.

It almost seems like Canon plans to run the 7D as a companion for the 5D3 for a while yet. Is this a plausible assumption?

I highly doubt that this means the 7d mk2 is hitting the shelves before christmas to say the least, yes. Maybe the 70d will replace the 7d and it will be a entry level FF between the 70d and the 5d once the 7d is really replaced.

That sounds entirely plausible. It looks like Canon wants to breathe some more life into the 7D, to tide it over a bit longer.

Improved audio quality and manual audio levels make more of a case for recording audio on camera via external mic rather than using external device such as a zoom!

Great news.

I'll still need my beachtek to get XLR feeds in, but now I can get rid of the AGC disable feature, and the subsequent CH1 filtering required to low-pass the anti-AGC tone - two clean channels!!!

And best of all, all my files are in the one place: no synching issues!

I was pondering selling my 7D. Not now!

Am I the only one who is disappointed by this firmware? I don't do video, I shoot in RAW, I hardly ever use auto ISO, not interested in GPS, there's not much left. Customized file naming sounds good, increased burst rate, sure, I never hit the limit though. Oh well, here's hoping that they maybe also did a little image quality tweaking, a tad less noise, less banding, who knows, probably not though.
