What Ever Happened to the Major 5D3 Firmware Upgrade?

Wasn't something coming (end of May was it?, End of June?) that was supposed to add features and improve image quality under some circumstances?

I wonder what happened to that firmware upgrade. Was it subsumed by all the chatter about the black AF points?

The only firmware update so far is the link I posted above. So far that's it.

There is apparently going to be new 5D Mark III firmware before the end of May. It will address a few bugs, as well as adding some “features”. No mention of what the features might be. It was mentioned there is a possibility of a bug fix firmware update before the “feature” update, a two part strategy if you will.

And to the OP: Yes, there was a major update announced but nothing happened so far. Perhaps coming in 2014? Everything canon wants to release is coming with huge delays these days...

Wick, we're aware of the quote. We're trying to tell you that it hasn't happened yet. Canon hasn't said when it will either. It was a rumor anyways.

The new version of EOS Utility includes the support for 7D firmware 2.0, but no mention of 5D3's firmware:-

"EOS Utility 2.11.4 Updater for Windows:
Supports EOS Kiss X6i / EOS REBEL T4i / EOS 650D, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS-1D X.
Supports EOS 7D Firmware Version 2.0.0. (For EOS 7D updated to Version 2.0.0, use EOS Utility 2.11.4 or later.)
The HDR (High Dynamic Range) function used during Remote Live View shooting has been added."
