Is digital still that new of a technology?

Ok Im quite confused, I know digital is the new thing and film is kind of almost vintage, but seriously why couldnt they just turn this camera digital?

I get the convenience of digital but this 1V film camera sure seems like one hell of a camera! Maybe I am too young and naive about film vs digital or however you want to call it. So is it really just a convenience factor that determines the price and features of the current SLRs because 1V has 45 point AF and can do 10FPS what the hell mr 5D2 or even 5D3 for that matter! I would trade the 5D3's 61 point AF and 6fps for the 1V's 45 point and 10fps, how cool would that be? Or is it more like how long did it take to get where the 1V is vs how long will it take for digital to catch up? I guess its only been 7 years since the 5Dc was announced I suppose its time to look up how long canon had been making auto-focus film cameras!

Well, there's a difference between "age" and "professional/premium/consumer"

The 1V is about 12 years old. It was the professional camera when it came out, nothing could touch it for AF, fps, sealing, etc, and it had a huge (for the time) pricetag.
It had the 45pt AF (that it got from the EOS3), that was inherited by the cameras that came after it: 1D, 1Ds, 1D2, 1Ds2, 1D3, 1Ds3, 1D4.
It had the 10fps that was inherited by the cameras that came after it: 1D, 1D2, 1D3, 1D4.

The EOS 5 got the 5-pt AF from the EOS 1n. When the 5D came out, it got a new 9-pt AF. That then got inherited by the 5D mk2.
The 5-series has always had second-best technology compared to the 1-series, film or digital. Sometimes it has the same tech (like the 5D mk2 and 1Ds mk3 sharing a sensor, or the 1DX and 5D mk3 sharing the AF), but generally something else has to be crippled (like the 5D mk2 got a hopeless AF compared to the 1Dsmk3, or the 5D mk3 got less FPS, processors, and other features than the 1DX). But it's also had a much smaller pricetag in comparison...

Why can that camera do 10 FPS and the 5d3 cant? Cause you don't have to process data on a film camera. The film stores the data instantaneously. The 5d3 has to pull the data off the sensor, process it, then store it on a memory card. Film needs no processor, or buffer, or cf card.

So it sounds like its a bit of marketing, price and technology. I will sit and wait another 12 years and see what cameras become and how outdated even a 5D3 would be considered. Was the EOS 1V rather expensive for its day? 12 years ago I was young and had a 2 megapixel Olympus that I thought was the best camera ever, I didn't know anything about film.
