Cheapish standard / short tele replacement / upgrade

Hi folks,

Nifty fifty was playing up last night, return of the old err01 fault.

So thinking of taking the opportunity to replace.

Something along similar lines...

standard / short tele perspective (I'm on APS-C)

Likely options... Canon 50mm f1.4, Sigma 50mm f1.4, Canon 35mm f2.0, Sigma 30mm f1.4, Samyang 35mm f1.4, not got zeiss money just now, don't mind manual lenses. Think the shorty forty might be at least a stop too dark (and want to avoid duplication, already have an f2.8 zoom that covers 40)

Thoughts.

I don't want to hear about how great the 50mm f1.2 or 35mm f1.4 are. I'm not going to buy them, so save your typing.

You've got a 7D, so you have AFMA. Given that, I'd go with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4.

+1 but if you ever want to go full frame, go for the 50 mm. It's also a lot sharper than the 30...

Looking at your list of gear and reading your post, the answer is clear, get the Canon 50 1.4 and enjoy.

I've found the refurbs to be excellent, they look like new and have been freshly checked and calibrated. You can return one within 14 days if you do not like it.

By the time you pay tax from Canon, you might as well just spend the $20 more and get it brand new. Amazon/B+H/etc are all $359

Id suggest the 50mm 1.4 too, but also try out the Samyang 35mm! Since u are in the EU i think u can test the lens "like in a store" when u buy it online and send it back withing 14 days if u arent satisfied.
